Oduya, 1st, Tedenby? We have our top wingers for the next 5 years so he would be the first of Josefson/Ted/Bergfors to go.

It's because Elisha lives in New York...

If the Flames were to trade Phaneuf, we better be getting back atleast:

From New Jersey: Travis Zajac and Johny Oduya
From NYI: Kyle Okposo and Josh Bailey

Other than that, the Flames should just keep Phaneuf.

Ok. He's a damn hack!

That felt kind of good, but name calling is so much more effective to the individual. Oh well. I'll stop with the name calling.

neither is Phaneuf... but you have to give to get... and anything with Phaneuf has to include Zajac or its a non-starter... and don't give me that Zajac > Phaneuf crap... because its simply not true... Phaneuf is quickly becoming the most underrated player on these boards

Islanders are now back in town, so that should be bring more to light, I do think if this rumor has teeth it is the Islanders and it is:

Dion for Gervais, Joensuu and 1sts in 2010 and 2011

Which opens up room for Vinny LeCav.

Islanders need to make a big splash, need dmen, and have a ton of home games to increase attendance, that is why the timing of the trade seems almost perfect.

On the otherhand, if Calgary is not looking at LeCav, and using the Islanders futures to get him, then it makes no sense at all.
Calgary can't hang up fast enough. Gervais is a piece of ****ing horse turd thrown into a rock tumbler and left to ferment. Joenssuu is c-Level prospect. Calgary could give to ***** about picks, they are contenders.

The Islanders have nothing to trade, this is a rebuild, people.

Either the NYR or the NJD.. and Lou usually doesn't go for the blockbuster.

Of course it's a joke, and I meant the reason Eklund started this rumour is because Elisha lives in New York...

and who exactly would be left on Calgary's defense? Sarich is injured and who knows how many games he will play this season. As of now we'd be left with this:

Regehr-Bouwmeester
Giordano-Pardy
Johnson-Kronwall

It only makes sense if Calgary is going for LeCavalier, they have Iginla and their forwards are a big drop from there Bourque, Langkow and Jokinen. I don't think Tampa is going to want Phaneuf so they have to get the Isles involved.

The trade has never made sense from Calgary's perspective unless they were going for the big piece from Tampa.

In this supposed rumor you would get a top 4 dman back from Islanders or Devils.... I think the only guy that makes sense from the Islanders is Gervais because he is not expensive and was considered top 4 dman at the start of the season. I don't think Sutton makes sense in that he is a UFA, and our other guys outside of Streit are either young (Hillen, MacDonald) or not top 20 (Witt/Meyer)

Well as false as it maybe the rumor is Dion to one of these teams. Just because you dont want to see him leave doesnt mean Zajac is the only way the two teams can get a deal done. Zajac is a 6'4 first line center that will probably score at a ppg pace over his career while being a selke candidate. I wont compare because you really cant...trade value one may me better than the other but you cant clearly state Dion>Travis or the other way around.

Makes sense for Calgary, they have Tim Erixon in the pipeline.

Calgary is looking to win now, not 5-6 years from now.

Phaneuf for Lecavalier? I think that works for both teams actually. Good proposal.

But as a Canuck fan, I really hope that doesn't go through.

Hope he's coming to the Rangers, not only because we'd be adding Phaneuf but because it'd take a major shake up to do so.

If he goes to the Devils I'll be super pissed.

Hopefully this is just another "Eklund."

How about:

Higgins, Girardi, Gilroy, Dubisnky, 1st for Phaneuf

Works cap wise too, just don't know if it's too much going to Calgary because as a Flames fan, that's a package I would accept if I was Darrly Sutter, which I am not.

I never stated Dion was better... i think Zajac and Parise are the only 2 players that I would consider moving Dion for... I have a feeling Sutter feels the same way... I just don't see the value in moving a potential Norris defenseman without getting another star player in return... I strongly feel the only way Phaneuf goes anywhere is in a Heatley/Hossa type trade

Pretty much.

Dion has been pretty good defensively this year. He has been much steadier as of late and he pretty much made Kovalchuk look invisible last night. He was an absolute treat to watch last night.
