Conky is coming off a 42 save shut-out. It's all about the goaltending in this one. Both guys are reasonably hot. JDD needs to have a good first period and the Oilers will hang in there.
For whatever reason the team chemistry and concept is much higher with all of our bigger players in the line-up.
Jacques, Stone and Stortini have really provided an element the Oilers have lacked immensely the past few seasons. Couple that with a grittier small player in Brule and the "difficult to play against" factor is upped greatly.
It will be interesting to see what happens when Comrie returns. I think that Pouliot, when healthy, will be going on a conditioning stint to Springfield.
This will be a great test to see if the old Oiler demons have been exorcised or not. The stereotypical Oilers of the past 5 years were the slumpbusters of the league. Teams that were in a rut must have loved to play us - especially former Oilers.
Conkie would love to follow up that spectacular shut out with another against the Oil. So I agree, this is going to be a battle of goaltending BIG TIME. It will also be a great opportunity for Quinn's Oilers to make a statement game to it's fans.
I sure hope we get some offense from guys in addition to Stortini.....
If Conkls came off a 42 save shutout that is probably good news for us. Means he is due for a stinker. Someone needs to write teh elague and see to it that Conks gets on either Boston or Philly for the Winter Classic. Hey with Emery out, I do see potential here.
Denis Grebeshkov ready to go for tonight's game. Officially, he's a gametime decision.
I dunno, I kinda feel that Quinn knows this could be a very important game in shaping the rest of the season. How many teams can say they won every game on a 5+ game roadtrip (discounting the fact that they don't technically include VAN in the roadtrip)? I could see Quinn keeping Strudwick in the lineup. I'd like to see Grebs back in, but I could understand either way.
EDIT: Quinn adds some intrigue...
Quinn: "We have 2 questionable players tonight so we expect Denis to play"
Because the Oilers went home for a few days and practiced there. Although it's on a consecutive string of road games, it's not on the same "trip".
Having a completely healthy lineup on the blueline was too much to hope for, I guess.
WTH is it going to take for us to ice our top 6 D? Every time Strudwick is on the ice, we spend the shift in our zone hanging on by the skin of our teeth. I would take Souray or Gilbert at 60% over him every day of the week.
