Wheeling to the Winter Classic Charity Event

Hey all,

I just wanted to spread the word about a charity event my friend and I are planning entitled 'Wheeling to the Winter Classic.' Basically we are planning to ride a tandem bike from the Spectrum to Fenway over a 5 day trip. We are currently working with the Flyers and the Comcast-Spectacor Foundation to make it a great and successful event. Today we are kind of "Going Public" with it as you can hear us on Preston and Steve today to promote the event. I imagine we will probably be on sometime on the 9-10 range and I am pumped to finally get the word of this event out to more than just friends, family, and classmates.

I ask that you please check out our website:
http://broadstreetbikers.webs.com/
and add us on Twitter:
http://twitter.com/broadstbikers
and feel free to email us at:
braodstbikers@gmail.com

Thanks for your time and possibly support of the event and I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday,

-Flountown (Andrew)

If it snows, on a bicycle you'll never make it.

On a motorcycle, you won't make it either but at least you'll die with your dignity intact.

As your attorney, I advise you to drive at top speed and it will be a god-damned miracle if you get there before you turn into a wild animal.

A little more exposure for you guys.

Good luck. Should be a...fun?...experience. It'll be worth it though.

Send me a PM if you want a little more exposure. I'd love to have a chat.

Are you ready for that? Checking into a Boston hotel on a tandem bike with your ass frozen to the seat and a face full of frostbite? I sure hope so.

Good god. Much luck with everything. I certainly know I would die just from that much exercise alone. You're gonna have buns of steel. Hope you're prepared for the weather though. Yikes.

Haha, thanks for the support, yes we realize it will be freezing...we are currently preparing winter gear for the event. I will say, when I woke up to snow last weekend all I could think was YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME with the weather being this cold this early...so much for global warming...

The exercise wont be that bad as we aren't trying to set a blistering pace...my friend and I are slowly working up gym bike rides to a few hours and once we get our hands on the tandem bike we will be making many a trip up and down the Perkiomen Trail to prepare for the weather.

Erm... it used to get this cold in like mid november. I remember snow on my farm on thanksgiving when I was growing up only like 10 years ago!

Things I would never do...more power to you, and pray it doesn't rain. Snow would be one thing, but December rain would be brutal.

A quick update, we got a mention in today's Daily News BEFORE an update on Braydon Coburn's injury...so yeah, we're that important.

I kid, I kid, but anyway...just wanted to update everyone that we will most likely be doing a test trip of the tracking system today by biking to the Spectrum to pick up our Winter Classic tickets. This would most likely happen around 5 - 5:30 so check it out if you have the time, and as always, thanks in advance for any support you may be able to give to our cause.

So I have some great news, we finally managed to find a tandem to use for the ride...cutting it close I know, but a huge thanks to the people at http://thecyclecorner.com/ for their generosity.

In other news, one of our contacts at the Flyers is sending us a "Winter Classic Survival Pack"...not sure what will be in it though, I'll keep you updated...

And finally, I will be doing a phone interview with a Boston radio station tomorrow so if you're bored and have internet listen to them online at http://wzlx.com/

Otherwise, have a great holiday everyone and please make sure you check out our website and Twitter account for more updates...

Good luck with your journey, man.

I think that as punishment for recent events...everyone in the Flyers organization should also have to wheel to the Winter Classic...players, coaches, everyone....on a few of these...

They could be raising money for all the fans who wasted their money on tickets recently.

Day 1 is finished...

Quote:
Today was a long day! It started out with our family and friends cheering for us as we departed from the Spectrum in South Philadelphia at 8:30am. When we reached North Philadelphia my phone rang and ABC Action news asked if they could catch up to us and do a quick interview. We gladly accepted and pulled over to the nearest gas station and waited for them to come. The next leg of the trip went very smoothly, until we took a wrong turn when we were close to the PA/NJ border. This eventually led us to an on ramp to Route 1. Not where we wanted to be! So we called our trail car and had them lift us to a safer area. The next obsticle we ran into was our first flat tire. Manuvering around the streets of Trenton, NJ we looked at our back tire and saw it was completely flat. Again we called our trusty trail car and they arrived with all of the necessary fix it materials.

The rest of our ride was fairly unevenful, but it was a long 80 miles to Staten Island. This was our longest day of our trip, so we are very glad it is behind us! Thank you to Lina Tirro and her family for gratiously hosting us tonight!

Few people are as insane as Andrew Moriarity and Patrick Montgomery, a few Flyers fans who have bled Orange and Black since birth. Their insanity however, is all for a good cause.

In a follow-up to the Phinally Philly breaking story about a pair of crazy kids ready to take a bike ride across six states (PA, NJ, NY, CT, RI, and MA) in five days to land in Massachusetts in time to support the Flyers in their Winter Classic game on January 1st, 2010 from historic Fenway Park, Phinally Philly decided to have a chat with Andrew Moriarity.
Thanks a lot for the responses. We're trying to get people to donate. Good luck with the rest of your ride.
