I think the Lightning should just voluntarily contract their franchise. The shame of no longer having Norris Trophy winner Shane O'Brien on the team is just too much to deal with.

Tampa dumped Ouellet's salary in the deal. They also got Simek who is still in their system. Not that that actually amounts to much of anything, but it's not like O'Brien is anything more than a below-average NHL defenseman.
O'Brien was playing close to top-pairing minutes for your team wasn't he?

You gave up a 1st rounder to acquire him didn't you?

Glass houses, champ.

No. O'Brien has never played for the Hurricanes.

Only extremely pro-Krajicek homers considered him a top 4 defenseman, imo.

He reminds me of weaker version of Skoula. Decent on a powerhouse team (Colorado) but not so decent on a lesser team. (Minny) And Krajicek has yet to be on a decent team.

Sure, he's got wheels. But not much else. Whereas at least Shane O'Brien can clear the crease. I'd certainly value that over Krajicek letting players go right through him in his own zone.

Won trade? No. Not clearly. But O'Brien apparently has some value to him still. Rumours were that Phoenix wanted him for Mueller. Not sure if that one has any truthiness.

In 2007-2008 he finished 5th in TOI/G among defenseman, in 2007 he finished 4th in TOI/G among defenseman by one second. Top pairing!!!!!

Yes, Feaster who has no connection to the Lightning anymore traded a 1st for SOB and a 3rd. It was a bad trade. That has nothing to do with the Canucks though. With the way Feaster drafted I doubt many are upset with that trade anyway.

This is exactly my point, though. Who cares what was going on 3 years ago? As it stands, O'Brien is still a (moderately) useful player for the Canucks and Krajicek got waived today.

Very simple. Trades can only truly be assessed in retrospect.

Nobody cares who won the SOB trade either yet you still brought it up.
Lightning fans are happy to get rid of SOB, Lightning fans were happy to get rid of SOB and especially Ouellet. No big deal either way.

I care. I like it when my team wins trades. Seems like the trades forum would be the place to bring it up when it happens.

If you care that much about a trade of two bad defensemen, a salary dump and an average AHLer then good for you I guess.

I assume they'll keep him with the club rather than bury the salary.
