Happy Hanukkah?

Actually yes, lol. That's a bad joke, sorry. It's officially Sundown in the Edmonton Area which means Hanukkah has started, so...

Happy Hanukkah to all the Hebrew Oilers fans out there.

Earlier in the week I was wondering why Katz never put up Christmas lights... then I remembered. But imagine if he turned his home into a giant Menorah?

I decided to do a bit of sleuthing. No other Canadian city's forum and no NYC area team have a Happy Hanukkah thread.

Hilarious, because Edmonton has BY FAR the smallest community of Jews of any of the major cities in Canada (outside of Quebec City...it barely has any), let alone the US.

lol, that is kind of funny. I thought it was the "thoughful" thing to do, plus I knew it was Hanukkah today thanks to my Oilers Calender.

Really? I was under the impression that there was a very large Jewish community. I honestly don't know; aren't they mostly concenrated in Buena Vista, Rio Terrace and Laurier?

It's small but active. Mostly on the west side like you mentioned. Montreal and Toronto have Canada's biggest jewish communities. But Edmonton is pretty multicultural and willing to embrace that, which is interesting since we're in Alberta. Unrelated, I heard we had the first Mosque in North America back in the early 1900s but I'm not sure if that is true.

I think it's roughly 5-6 thousand...in a city of a million.

To give you perspective...

Calgary has about 12-13 thou.
Vancouver area has between 25-30 thou.
Winnipeg has about 15-20K.
Ottawa has about 15-20K.
Hamilton has 8-9K.
Toronto area has about 200K.
Montreal has about 110K.
Halifax has about 5K.
Victoria has about 4K.

Jews in E-town from what I understand mostly live way to hell and gone out west near 178 st. exit on the Whitemud...but those areas you mentioned probably have a decent number. I know where I grew up near Blue Quill-- My sister and I were the only Jews (there might've been another 1 or 2) in our entire elementary school and jr. high.

Yup. Lots of them in Lessard/Donsdale. When I lived there, my neighbour even got me a gig babysitting for the rabbi, and I'm a filthy goyim.

I also get a kick out of "way to hell and gone"... because it really was. Especially when it came to commuting to the U of Eh. Oy vey!

I used to be Jewish, but Cloned traded me to Islam for draft picks.

Also it seems fitting since coming from behind to beat the Blues in the 3rd was definetly a Hanukkah miracle

I'm Muslim too, but some of my favorite people are Jewish, I'd totally marry Larry David.

Happy Hanukkah, and may all your comedians remain great.
