CBJ All-Decade Team: Center

Figured we could use a topic that wasn't depressing.

Who has been the best center for the Jackets this decade?

After filling in the poll options, maybe this is depressing...

I picked Cassels.

Wait... you wanted a topic that wasn't depressing and this is what you came up with? I'm not sure this topic would be anywhere near my first choice.

Shampoo.

Tough (long) ending for him in CBJ-land. (Which is depressing, too.)

Best Center/player to wear a Jacket Jersey is Fedorov.
Best Center for the Jackets is indeed Shampoo.
Too bad his neck got hurt as he never recovered.

F) The guy playing #1 center during the 2004-2005 season was the only one who wasn't memorably bad.

Voted for Manny, he wasn't great but I enjoyed his game. I would take Vermette over any of those guys.

Best point total for that group was Cassels in 02-03 with 68 points(48assists)

Feds had 43 points in 05-06 and 42 points in 06-07.

Knutsen's 53 point in the innaugural season was pretty impressive.

I voted Cassels, his table setting was good.

I would like to place a write in vote for my main man Sillinger. Two 43 point season(s) weren't too shabby. And he was only a -56 during those two years!

Poor guy didn't even make the list...

Cassels was my dream signing.. The one or two shifts Sanderson/Cassels/Dineen played put me back in Hartford...

Wright and Sillinger are next on my list.

In terms of points per game, it goes Cassels and then Fedorov. Overall, I think Fedorov had more of an impact on the entire game than Cassels, but I'd probably pick Cassels over the two. I loved me some Shampoo, tho.

The rest of this post might interest some, and is sorta related.

Since the 2002/2003 top three forwards on the team were the best point producers the Jackets have ever had, relative to their peers, I still like to go back to that season to compare with more recent ones.

2002/2003 Top 3 (league rank):

22nd -- Whitney
32nd -- Cassels
36th -- Sanderson

Average: 30th

2009/2010 Top 3 (league rank):

15th -- Nash
59th -- Umberger
62nd -- Vermette

Average: 45th

2002/2003 Top 6:

112nd -- Vyborny
124th -- Spacek
132nd -- Sillinger
155th -- Nash

Average (all players): 76th
Average (only forwards): 81st

2009/2010 Top 6:

69th -- Huselius
118th -- Voracek
152nd -- Brassard

Average: 79th

2002/2003 Top 9:

210th -- Marshall
224th -- Wright
311th -- Pirjeta

Average (all players): 133rd
Average (only forwards): 137th

2009/2010 Top 9:

154th -- Stralman
177th -- Tyutin
179th -- Torres
191st -- Chimera
[312th -- Russell]
[359th -- Klesla]
363rd -- Pahlsson

Average (all players): 109th
Average (only forwards): 134th

Didn't bother to do the next three forwards/defense, but maybe I will after I eat.

I am saddened by the lack of Jan Hrdina as an option.

Agreed. He was an inspiration to pirate captains 'round the world who longed to be hockey players, with that handicap of his.

Odelein.. he was our first Captain, but most of all the dude could party. I spent two evenings with him at the Sanderson/Dineen pool parties in 2000 and 2001. He was a blast-one hell of a guy and player imo..

I'll never forget when he played for Montreal and shot a puck at Ted Nolan's head (coach for Buffalo at the time) during a game. I asked Lyle about that and he told me "ya, we all love Teddy but he pissed me off that game"....
