I'm fine with Emery, Briere has been one the Flyers best players night in and out. He's not someone who needs to or should be traded right now.

maybe last year
before Emery signed,

and Fla still had Bouw, n were in a playoff hunt.

I doubt Philly gives up Danny right now, he is playing HUGE for them, and has been a pivotal piece of their success

I can't believe Briere is actually playing decently this year. I thought this would be the year where everyone decides he is on one of the worst contracts in the league.

Eh, too bad..

Briere has been great outside of a stretch in his first year when he went through a bad slump. He doesn't play defense and takes dumb penalties, but he does what he's paid to do as long as he doesn't have groin injuries. He just has a bunch of haters who haven't gotten over the fact they didn't want him 3 years ago, forgetting that the alternatives (Gomez and Drury) have not been as good with worse contracts.

Haters will hate.

And I'd argue that his defense and physical play have been MUCH better. A lot more willing to take contact this year, backchecking much harder

And yet he still has the worst +/- on the team.

Briere has definitely been our best forward though. However, I'd do this deal because the Flyers would be better off for it in the long term.

So what if he's playing "well" this year? That'd be the attraction to other teams to take unload his abysmal contract. I'd do it in a heartbeat if Vokoun has no follow-up effects from Ballard's tomahawk smash.

Briere is still overpaid, an injury liability, horrible at defense, and very undisciplined.

I say absolutely

edit: if Florida is willing to oblige, but I probably just talked them out of it

That is a pretty negative assessment of Briere. Unfairly so, IMHO.

IMO the Panthers are going nowhere again this year and should be looking to move Vokoun for the right price, who has indicated a willingness to waive his NTC. As a rebuilding team, the Panthers would be looking for young talent, not a vet, like Briere, saddled with a long term contract.

Also, it appears that the Flyers are in a real pickle. Firing the coach failed to jump start the team, which proceeded to lose 4 out of 5. Assuming that management still believes that the Flyers have the talent to compete for the cup this year, then the only thing left to do is to make a major trade.

think cats would want younger talent instead honestly. He doesnt seem the type of player our coach likes either.

I said no beforehand, but all those reasons were in my mind. He's a good player and I'd like to have him, but not for that amount and length.

Even though Briere is playing pretty well he is only in the third year of an 8-year deal. I don't see Florida trading Vokoun and not cutting some salary or at least not taking all the salary back in one player who also has five more years on a deal that expires when he is what, 37 or 38?

From Philly's standpoint it makes a little sense, they dump Briere's contract and get a stopgap in goal during Emery's injury but a goalie change is not going to save them right now IMO and then they have to waive Boucher when Emery comes back in a month or so. Then they have a slightly better goalie tandem to show for arguably their best offensive player at the moment, but mainly the cap flexibility is attractive.

Its a good trade. If i am Philly i do it, if i am Florida i say no. Florida can trade Vokoun in the off-season and get younger, cheaper players.

In the end if both teams agreed, Briere says no and does not waive his NMC.
