Because of Hartnell's salary, I'd say that's unlikely.

Thank you for this, maybe this will shut some people up on the value of Halak. I would love Hartnell, if he cut his hair a little....hehe

I'm speechless. I even like the fact the he threw in the 4th round pick, "...as a bonus." Funny thing is, his post is actually serious.

Hahaha, I love reading this stuff!

If we want Carter back, we'll need to add a lot more than Halak.

Then again, even if we want a guy like Giroux, we'll most likely have to send a young, cheap player along with Halak.

They could probably get Halak for a 2nd or 3rd rounder (or an equivalent back up tender) Why would they trade their great prospects like Giroux for him?

OP's proposal is the worst I have ever seen, you are lucky it is safe in the confines of this board.

Because of our current cap situation and the amount of long term contracts was are strangled with we will not be taking advantage of any slumpings team desire to shed players for a long time. Thank you Gainey.

What about something like:

Halak + MaxPac + draft pick for
Giroux

Because Bob Gainey is not a retard.

That would only make our team worse. Which at this point, makes 0 sense.

Yeah it's not like Gainey has ever made a trade that made our team worse before!

Giroux is a pure sniper and a legit top 6 forward that might end up being a top line player. He's much better than MaxPac.

Overpayment? Really?

Based off what i've seen of him, i've seen no indication of that. I don't see all their games, admittedly, but none the less.

Your giving them a #1b goalie, a good potential top 6 guy (who was drafted a year later in the same area, by the way). Plus a pick.

Giroux might have more point-per-game success thus far, but look at the offensive players he gets to play with and look what Pacioretty gets to play with.

Why not check the stats?

Giroux - 76g, 15g, 46pts
MaxPac - 67g, 6g, 22 pts

Yeah, really, I'm overpaying. You just haven't seen the potential in Giroux...

Giroux is a year older, and has got to play with legitimate stars in the NHL. Pacioretty has only had a small sample of games with legitimate GOOD players, nevermind players like Richards, Carter, Briere, Gagne, etc.

Seriously.

Pacioretty didn't even look like he belonged in the NHL at the beginning of this year and now he is as valuable as Giroux? Do you guys have the memory of a goldfish?

You weren't offering them 1 for 1.

MaxPac for Giroux straight up is not overpaying.

but Halak + MaxPac + a pick IS.

I know it's Bruce Garrioch, but Jeff Carter is exactly what we need on this team!

Jeff Carter
Center
Born Jan 1 1985 -- London, ONT
Height 6.03 -- Weight 193 -- Shoots R

My proposal and the reasons wh it works is:

To Philadelphia:

Jaroslav Halak + Maxime Lapierre + 4th round draft pick (Anaheim)

Why: Philadelphia needs a goalie and goaltending depth, Maxim Lapierre can replace carter in the top 6 or 9 and we give them the 4th round draft pick as a bonus.

To Montreal:

Jeff Carter + Nicola Riopel

Why: We need a top 6 BIG forward that can score and Nicola Riopel is a Quebec born young goaltender than can replace our goaltending depth with the loss of Halak while Sanford backs up Price.
no way philly is down with that, even though there are massive rumours of problems in their locker room, no way.

Not trolling here, but I find it bizarre how so many Habs fans underestimate Halak's value. I watch a lot of Habs games and he's just as good as Price is, minus the hype and the "potential". A lot of teams don't even have a #1 goalie that is as good or consistent as Halak is, and would certainly give up a top-6 forward straight up to acquire him.

Maybe not a top line guy, but a second liner such as Giroux is quite realistic imo.
