Flyers looking at Halak

http://www.rds.ca/canadien/chroniques/288102.html

Its in french, but basically it says that Flyers are seriously looking at Halak and asked for the price. Montreal asked for a top 6 forward.

On the habs board they thought...

Giroux

for

Halak, Paccioretty and a pick

Was "serious overpayment" by the habs.

Giroux is a very fine prospect doing well so far this year but let's not get carried away here...

Good luck with that. Its not everyday that backup goalies are traded for top-6 forwards.

Goaltending seemed like the Flyers' only question mark going into the season but it's only one of many now. Halak isn't going to fix their problems at all. They've needed to get a proven starter ever since Hextall left and they are going to have to shell out some assets to get one. Enough with the quick fixes.

I'll go on record to say I think that's an overpayment also.

To be fair, Cechmanek was a #1 when he was here, and Biron was very good in 2007-08.

Coburn is the only piece I could see going for Halak, and a decent defenseman would need to come with Halak.

Giroux and JVR or any other top 6 will not be moved. We have lost too much depth over the last couple of years (Umberger, Upshall, Knuble, Lupul) without adding much. I highly doubt Halak would be much of an upgrade over Emery who was playing fine until he had injury problems.

Philly's six best forwards are Richards, Carter, Briere, Giroux, van Riemsdyk and Gagne or Hartnell...in no particular order.

Habs would have to add more to be able to land Carter, Giroux, Gagne or van Riemsdyk. Richards isn't going anywhere and Briere has a NTC and a contract that most teams cannot accept without moving salary. Hartnell has a NTC, too.

Therefore, I doubt this goes anywhere.

If you're Holmgren, you don't sign anywhere. You back away slowly (or run like hell).

Interesting...

THe Halak, Lapierre and 1st for JVR sounds interesting. JVR is doing well, and looks good, overall. Halak would definitely help the struggling Flyers, who would also pick up a 1st. It sounds feasible, except I think Flyers management is very high on JVR.

Interesting offer, though...

Why do they want a top 6 forward? They are stacked as is for top 6 and also Price is their #1 goalie, no way there are going to need Halak that badly. Carcillo, Nodl and Grahame for Halak.

He could stand pat and try for another lottery pick in the NHL draft... Oh wait, he doesn't have a 1st round pick! lol

A bottom-6 forward, an AHL forward, and an AHL goalie for a 1A/1B goalie? Sign me up.

Yea, its going to rough missing out on all those draft picks the Flyers traded away. Afterall, we won't be able to draft and develop younger players and then trade them away in packages for guys like Gomez.

you're getting a great young goalie and a first round pick which will likely be top 15 in this draft or at least top 20 along with maxim lapierre for JVR. If you say no to this; you're overrating JVR or you're underrating the habs player. Living in Quebec City, I watch every games from both team, and I'd surely accept this deal.

I think to the unbiased hockey fan it is a very fair deal. But Habs fans would hate it and FLyers fans would hate it because they can't see past the logo.
