They are both excellent defencemen, but I would want Kaberle.

Boyle.

All else being equal, Kaberle plays 23:40 a night with no PK time and boyle plays 27:00 a night with almost 3 minutes on the PK per night.

I would love either centering my team's back end though. Could really use a legit #1.

Homer vote for Kaberle.

IMO, Boyle has a better shot and has an edge defensively. Kaberle is better at moving the puck and is a better PP QB (also, IMO).

Depends what you want, I guess. Kaberle is a good fit for Toronto, and Boyle is a good fit for SJ.

Imagine the kind of numbers Kaberle would put up playing with Thornton, Heatley, and Marleau

All-Star Teams
Kaberle: 0
Boyle: 2 Second Team (2007, 2009)

Norris Voting (top 10):
Kaberle: None
Boyle: 4 (2007), 5 (2009)

Top goal-scoring seasons post-lockout:
Kaberle: 11 (2003), 11 (2007)
Boyle: 15 (2006), 20 (2007), 16 (2009)

Point-scoring seasons post-lockout:
Kaberle: 67, 58, 53, 31 (57 games), 31 (current)
Boyle: 53, 63, 25 (37 games), 57, 28 (current)

A/TOI per season since lockout:
Kaberle: 28, 26, 25, 23, 23 (current)
Boyle: 23, 27, 27, 25, 27 (current)

Total season points/powerplay points since lockout:
Kaberle: 67/51, 58/30, 53/30, 31/19, 31/17 (current) 60%
Boyle: 53/25, 63/37, 25/14, 57/32, 28/14 (current) 54%

Career playoffs:
Kaberle: 6-22-28 in 77 games
Boyle: 5-21-26 in 51 games

So why is Kaberle better? San Jose's powerplay rose 6% the first year Boyle arrived.

Why disregard salary? Its extremely important in a cap world.
Its almost too close to call skill wise. I'd say Kaberle is better offensively and Boyle as a better 2 way game but once you factor in cap hit its not even a contest. Kaberle by a mile.

Kaberle is, by far, the most overrated defenseman not named Schenn in the NHL. I look at him as a better version of Mark-Andre Bergeron.

Let me guess Ian White is the 2nd most over rated Defensemen in the league.

May be you should try watching hockey more. They are not even the same type of players and definitely not in the same league.

Kaberle is playing on a team that is not in the same class as San Jose at the moment.

I'm not saying this in any way to compare both players, but how sweet would Kaberle's numbers be in San Jose.

Both are excellent defensemen and one can't go wrong with having either.

I'll give an edge to Boyle, though. He can play a role on the PP as a QB and also has a shot to score.

Kabby runs the PP quite well, his passes are always crisp and on the tape...If only he could use his accurate shot more

Boyle isn't as good defensively as he's given credit for. He was a giveaway machine in Tampa and didn't get called on it because, well he was in Tampa.

Salary should be taken into account. Kaberle's contract is a steal.

Kaberle gets my vote.

I'd take Dan Boyle without blinking. I used to think of him as a defensive problem, but when I watch him closely, it just isn't true. Boyle is better in both ends, and it shows in the standings.
