Yea it has nothing to do with the teams playing around them.

How do you post on a hockey site and not watch hockey?

I'd pick Boyle for two reasons.

1) I like the game he plays. Every team can benefit from a defenseman who can move the puck like that. It gets the team out of trouble defensively, and creates things offensively. When the team has trouble getting it into the zone, he'll take matters into his own hands and do it for them.

2) During the playoffs last season when some of the other Shark players seemed to be mailing it in against Anaheim, or just weren't playing as well as they should have been, Boyle was their best, and hardest working player. He might have called out the team, but he held himself to the same standards and went out on the ice and tried to lead by more than just words. You've got to respect that.

I didn't vote because I don't watch TML games. Boyle is great, however, and is just about as valuable as any defenseman in the league. At the same time, comparing offensive numbers between the two just isn't fair...Boyle has been blessed with offensive juggernauts for most of his career, while Kaberle has been on an offensively-challenged Toronto team for quite a while. The average time on ice, however, shows me that Boyle might just have the edge, but again, I don't watch Kaberle much so I'm not voting.

Agreed with everything you say. 2 post season All-Star births and a 3rd one likely on the way to zero for Kaberle says a lot too.

Boyle skates hard and plays his heart out, but don't be fooled by his intensity. He's awful defensively.

Salary should be taken into account. Kaberle's contract is a steal.

Kaberle gets my vote.

Because obviously if he was bad 3 years ago when you last saw him play for your team, he's still bad 3 years later, right? Hockey players never improve or add new dimensions to their game.

Top goal-scoring seasons post-lockout:
Kaberle: 11 (2003), 11 (2007)
Boyle: 15 (2006), 20 (2007), 16 (2009)

Point-scoring seasons post-lockout:
Kaberle: 67, 58, 53, 31 (57 games), 31 (current)
Boyle: 53, 63, 25 (37 games), 57, 28 (current)

A/TOI per season since lockout:
Kaberle: 28, 26, 25, 23, 23 (current)
Boyle: 23, 27, 27, 25, 27 (current)

Total season points/powerplay points since lockout:
Kaberle: 67/51, 58/30, 53/30, 31/19, 31/17 (current) 60%
Boyle: 53/25, 63/37, 25/14, 57/32, 28/14 (current) 54%

Career playoffs:
Kaberle: 6-22-28 in 77 games
Boyle: 5-21-26 in 51 games

So why is Kaberle better? San Jose's powerplay rose 6% the first year Boyle arrived.
I agree that Boyle is the better player but IIRC Kaberle has been in at Least 1 All Star Game. I think it might have been 2002 when they had the World Vs. North America format.

I think he was talking about postseason all-star selections, not the actual All-Star game.

boyle by a bit, I think boyle can take over a game more than kaberle.

But kaberle's passing/rushing ability is very unique and impressive.

To the minority who say Boyle is terrible defensively...

Have you ever seen a sharks game? There is a reason he logs 3 minutes of Shorthanded ice time a game. He is our best defenseman offensively and defensively (although Vlasic and Murray are very close defensively).

It doesnt matter what Boyle did in Tampa anymore guys...
