The New York Rangers are proud to welcome Colby Armstrong to the organization. We feel that Armstrong will be a key member of our team and he will get the chance to play in every situations.

In order to afford such a move, we had to trade Ales Kotalik to the Carolina Hurricanes. We wish him the best of luck with his new team and we think that the 2nd round pick we got will be an useful asset to have (Sergei Samsonov and Andrew Alberts were placed on waivers earlier today).

Right now, we are shopping young defenseman Bobby Sanguinetti for a younger prospect (forward or defenseman) with similar upsides. Sanguinetti is NHL ready but we don't have a roster spot for him. He has top pairing potential.

We will also listen to other offers.

NOTE: I WILL NOT BE THERE TONIGHT AND I WOULD LIKE TO ANNOUNCE MY FINAL ROSTER TOMORROW AROUND NOON ET. YOU HAVE UNTIL 3PM ET TODAY TO SEND ME YOUR INQUIRIES AND UNTIL NOON ET TOMORROW TO SEND YOUR OFFERS.

Toronto has signed Winger Frederic Modin to a 1yr deal. The deal involves a 1.25M base salary and a 250k gp bonus to provide some support/insurance on the wing.

Our roster is almost complete, we are just looking for 1 or 2 more cheaps FAs to round out our 13th F spot.

We are also willing to trade Grabo or Blake + a prospect (didimenco, Blacker, etc..) for an upgrade. Salary can be a little higher as long as it's a better player coming back.

Confirmed.

Tampa roster now looks like this:

We need a top 4 defenseman and an enforcer. A little over $4M to play with.

The Carolina Hurricanes have made a big splash in the UFA market signing top pairing defenceman Kim Johnsson! Terms of the contract are as follows: 4 years, $14 million,$3.5 million/year, Full NTC. The new lineup is:

E.Cole - E.Staal - M.Ryder
T.Ruutu - J.Jokinen - A.Kotalik
Z.Boychuk - B.Sutter - D.Byfuglien
T.Kostpoulos - R.Brindamour - C.Larose
D.Hordichuk

J.Pitkanen - K.Johnsson
xxxxxxxxxx - T.Gleason
A.Ference - K.Alzner
B.Sopel (buyout)

C.Ward
S.Valiquette

The Hurricanes are now looking to trade one of Michael Ryder or Tom Kostopoulos to clear up space for a defenceman. Mostly looking for picks and prospects, but can take a salary dump in any Ryder deal.

Penguins confirm.

Penguins Add Two Young Players to Their Top Six

Pittsburgh Penguins added two wingers to their top six today. Their first move was signing former Edmonton Oiler Andrew Cogliano to an offer sheet. Terms were not disclosed at this time but the rumor is that the Penguins did not have to give any compensation in return for the 22 year old. Cogliano struggled last season but has put up 18 goals in his two previous season. The Penguins expect Cogliano to move immediately into the top six. He is projected to play next to Evgeni Malkin.

In their second move of the day, Pittsburgh traded prospects Phillip Samuelsson and Luca Caputi for 24 year old Kris Versteeg. Versteeg put up 22 and 24 goals in the last two season. He will bring speed and scoring ability into the top six.

With these moves today the Penguins projected lineup for next season:

Versteeg - Crosby - Wheeler
Tangradi - Malkin - Cogliano
Kunitz - Staal - Kennedy
Dupuis - Rupp - Talbot
Godard/Adams

Gonchar - Letang
Orpik - Goligoski
McKee - Lovejoy

Fleury
Johnson

The Penguins are looking for a young defender to play on their bottom pairing, preferably in a prospect/pick swap.

You have to announce the terms.

The only way there is no compensation is if the offer was lower than $863,156, and if it was, Cogliano must fire his agent immediately.

That defense still doesn't particularly impress me, but you've done an exceptional job surrounding Malkin and Crosby with cheap talent on the wings. Versteeg, Wheeler, and Cogliano should all flourish. Very nice.

we are at the tail-end of this one... Trade deadline and playoffs passed, we are almost done with the offseason.

There are some inactive GM's, but your better off waiting for GM Game #3 which will come soon.

I don't remember my exact offer but I am pretty sure it was under the compensation line which I though was a little above 940,000.

The reason I got him so cheap was that no other teams made him an offer.

Thanks.

It still basically the same core of defense that won the Cup. It focuses on two-way play and transition. Everyone on the defense is a very good skater and has a good first pass. Gonchar, Orpik, and McKee are all very good defensively. Goligoski and Letang are improving greatly defensively and are still young. I still am not done with the defense yet but it won't be much different either way.

Who is his GM? If he's getting no offer and he's a legit Top 6 forward the agent should be making some posts concerning his lack of interest instead of handing him off for under 1M. He's a 2-4M dollar player.
