I'd like Jonathan Bernier

A Bernier, Jonathan that is.

22 GP, 13-7-2, 2.05 GAA, 0.939 SV%

21 years old. Kings fans are lamenting the fact they don't have room for him in the show even though he's too good for the AHL. We need a better backup goalie than Dubnyk/Pitton, and Bernier is the perfect guy to push JDD. Whoever is better stays on the roster next year (Bernier is on his ELC until next summer).

Not that I'm overly against bringing in a guy like Bernier, but exactly how long is Khabibulin supposed to be out? Not too long, I'd think.

Do we really want to create a three-headed monster? Or worse, demote one of JDD (who'd never make it past Philadelphia on the waiver wire) or Bernier and take starts away from Dubnyk?

Quick's been good for the Kings, but I was wondering if he starts to show some troubles with the season winding down and they're in position to be a playoff team - if they'd be interested in Khabibulin. They do have some cap room, and it'd add a veteran presence in between the pipes a la Roloson for us in '06. That'd be prime time to pry someone like Bernier off of them.

He's definitely a legit prospect.

Why would anyone want Khabibulin?

He's always injured.

goaltending is one area I'm not too worried about for the oilers. JD has proven over the last month that he can give us a chance to win most nights. Yes the future is vague for Khabibulin but I don't think it's necessary to make a move. It's certainly not the right message to send to JD

Dubnyk is more then capable of being the backup to JDD untell Khabi gets back. I do not see the need for the BJ your after at all.

What has Dubnyk done so bad that your down on him other then do his job?

IMO its going to be Dubnyk who is going to be our teams future number one. And he seems to be very under rated around here. He has played a season and a half as a AHL starter and has showed very well despite playing with a sub par defence core and rest of the team for that matter.

I would also suggest that Dubnyk is further ahead in development which would also make your BJ not needed. Besides why would we want a guy with those initials imagine all the threads about BJ.

Even though the Kings seem to have a competent enough goalie, wouldn't the price for Bernier pretty high? Putting up those kind of stats in the AHL at that age is pretty damn impressive.
What do you think the price would be for Bernier?
Edit: I've also heard that Manchester's place in the standings is essentially all because of Bernier.

From my understandings from Kings fans (I have asked about Bernier for Hawks)

They plan to have him be #2 next year and then see how he does. If he plays well they will move Quick who should draw interest with the way he has established himself as a solid young #1

They needed to attempt to deal for him a year or so ago. I don't think he could be had now really...if the Kings feel the need to keep Ersberg instead they're nuts...

Even with a fully healthy roster, this team doesn't have the makings of winning the Cup this year IMO. We spent 2 first round picks on DD and JDD, and they've both been following a solid career path up until now, doing things the right way (from what I've seen...although I haven't really seen many games this year). From the sounds of it though, JDD is at least holding his own, and developing/getting a little better as each game goes on. I do quite like Bernier, but we should just let our picks develop and build a team from within. Khabi will be there in the wings when he's healthy, and for a rookie goalie to be getting 30 starts (assuming Khabi will be back later this season) and doing quite well in those starts will do nothing but help his confidence going forward. If Khabi is done for the season, then let JDD get his 45 starts and give DD a few as well, because we really don't have much of a shot at winning it all at that point. Let them develop. All getting to the playoffs and losing in the first round does is hurt our draft pick.

i don't think LA will trade him yet because his value isn't that high, they will probably try him in the NHL 1st and see if they want him or Quick as there goalie and then trade one of the 2
