I'd rather not see scripted or choreographed celebrations, but a little passion goes a long way in keeping the game enjoyable and exciting to watch.

Ya, I got the idea for this poll from watching sportscentre this morning. Those NFL touchdown dances... I dunno about them

I noticed that Tootoo is needing a new contract this year...

Penner-Gagner-Brule
Jacques-Horcoff-O'Sullivan
Moreau-Cogliano-Stone
Tootoo-Potulny-Stortini

I know some people around these boards dislike Tootoo, but... imagine playing against a team with Jacques, Stone, Stortini, and Tootoo - and let us not forget about Brule (and at times Moreau and Penner). That is a lot of physicality to deal with.

Replace the word dislike with "hate to the point of throwing crap at". Also remember that there's a difference between physicality and playing like a punk. Our guys tend not to be punks. Even Stone who's a bit of a pest stands up for himself. Tootoo would be busy running for the bench or hiding behind the referee.

No Tootoo; not ever.

Yeah the scripted stuff has no place. That being said, a few of OV's celebrations have been over the top, but he has been on pace for 50+. How do you stop a guy from celebrating when he is scoring at that kind of pace?!

I reserve a bit of an exception for 40+ - 50+ goal scorers, but the hot stick thing was WAY too much for me - I like the 'Horcoff reaction'. Less is more...

I hate over the top celebrations for goals that really mean nothing. Now you score the overtime winner in the playoffs ya celebrate but if you score the 3rd goal when your down 6-2 then whats the point?

A little first pump or yell or hug is ok but getting nuts after goal come on.

Playing and coaching hockey over the years I have seen to many bad things happen because players over celebrate goals.

I remember something I am not too proud of doing but it happened because of overzealous celebrations.

We were down I think 7-1 in a bantam game and the other team scored again. Just like every goal they celebrated they would go bananas and they would skate by our bench yelling and screaming. Every time they score they would repeat this. Well that last goal I had had enough. They skated by and I remember clothes lining the last kid hard. It hit him so hard he got knocked out. Things got ugly from there with the coaches, parents and everyone trying to get at each other. All because of stupid goal celebrations in a regular season game.

It makes no difference to me. It's not like there have been over the top celebrations that drive me crazy. One thing I would like to see is Souray at least smile when he scores.

Not one for scripted celebrations, but I do like to see guys get excited when they score. Fortunately for the Oilers, the guys go for so long between goals, that they get pretty excited when they do get one. Souray though, is never pumped. I'd like to see him actually get happy when he scores. Then again, i'd just like to see him score.

Well guys like Smid need to get pumped. Heck the guy will most likely be the first player in NHL history to play 15 years and have all the pucks that he scored with on his fireplace.

The player everyone loves to hate. Skates hard and hits like a linebacker, he would be a good addition to any team...highly sought after as well. I would assume he will get a hefty raise next year for his services.

Effective element to any team. You can't deny his skill as much as you want to hate him.

No, I can't deny that he is incredibly skilled at being an idiot on the ice.

I can certainly deny that he does anything "effective" or positive on the ice. He doesn't. There are also very few of him in the league. Looking back on cup winners, it would appear as though Pittsburgh, Detroit, Anaheim, that team from one of the Carolinas, Tampa Bay and New Jersey have done just fine without players like him...need I go on?

If I remember correctly, Cooke did play for Pittsburg last year and Maltby was on multiple championships for Detroit.

Matt Cooke had a 31 point regular season and a 7-point playoff.

Maltby hasn't gotten many points in a while, but also has significantly fewer PIMS when not scoring.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. The Islanders celebration when they scored the game winner in OT is something I'd much rather see then Shremps 'tralala, look at me' parade.

Sorry to steal your thunder, BB, but this article from Mirtle is worth reading.

You can read HotToddy's crap about how great the NHL is in its own mind, or you can consult the raw data and draw your own conclusions.

Tootoo has 9 points in 19 games and 18 PIM. I never said I liked the guy personally but he can play hockey and is arguably one of the hardest hitters for his size. Cooke and Tootoo are the pot and the kettle...they both try and ruffle feathers by finishing checks hard. Give me Tootoo anyday over Cooke.

I would hate to see Tootoo in a Oiler jersey, in fact it would make my flesh crawl. I cant say I have ever disliked a hockey player more than I dislike Tootoo. The guy is a dirtbag who will muck it up and then refuse to answer the call for his questionable antics. Claude Lemieux had more class (and that aint saying much).

Reimer, thanks again for the Monkey Jungle suggestion. It was awesome, complete with a monkey nearly peeing on my foot
