the simple fact is this, if we can keep a playoff spot until he returns, we'll be massive underdogs and can cause serious damage in the playoffs. Team unity + new found offensive flair = devastating to other teams

if we do struggle, we're ****ed and we can expect a top 10 pick.

There's always some hope to make the playoffs with the parity in the NHL. Look at teams like the Rangers/Flyers who are hanging around with the bottom teams in the east. Pretty sad.

That's not that bad a scenario, the draft is stacked at the top this year. I'd rather have a top 10 pick than a 1st or 2nd round exit.

Ugh. Making the playoffs anything can happen. Give me playoff hockey over watching the draft. Although it wouldn't surprise me on HF that people get more excited for drafts than playoffs.

on a serious note this could be a bad week for the Sens, we lose to the Laughs, Spezza out longterm and Cowen might not make team canada
Minor correction...Chris Kelly assumed the #1 Center role when Jason Spezza and then later Mike Fisher went down with injuries. It was rough, lol.

Arguably, Heatley played his best hockey in a sens uniform when Spezza went down.

So if Spezza is out for 2 months, can the team put him on long term injured reserve? That ought to free up a nice chunk of cap. A silver lining . . .

I don't think hockey Canada is stupid enough to go with any of Lalonde, Cuma or Olsen over Cowen. Cowen is just flat out way better than all of those guys, although Lalonde and Olsen play a different game. Scandella hasn't made it yet either. In all honesty, I expect Cowen and AP to be the top pairing for Canada.

AND don't forget they are going to take 7 defenseman. I'd say there's maybe a 5% chance Cowen doesn't make it.

what about when he returns?

I doubt Murray will utilize the cap, it will just end up costing Melynk a bunch of cash.

Mistake? Ottawasenators.com for tomorrow's game preview said this:
Quote:
Senators' first-line center Jason Spezza will miss four-to-six weeks with a right-knee injury that he incurred with 30 seconds left in Monday's 3-2 loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs. Spezza was hurt after a faceoff when Toronto's Lee Stempniak fell onto his leg.
a difference is 4-8weeks too 4-6 is a biiiiiiiiiig difference, about 5 games right there,

Isn't the extra two weeks the Olympic break?

2 months (8 weeks) we have 31 games...we'll have to make a trade or else we can kiss our playoff hopes goodbye, there's no way our players can handle that much of a big load for that long.

Picture this, 31 games...we're played 32 this season..I dont think this is good

No, the Olympic break starts in nine weeks, not six.

I offically give you the most-annoying-poster-award

What are you trying to prove with your continous nonsense all the time? That the Sens are just not as great as some of the other teams? You nitpick your stats for everything thats better than the Sens and bring them to the table to prove I don't ****ing know what!!

Why don't you complain to Santa this x-mas saying that..

There are 30 GMs and why dont you have the best one of them all who would address your wish-list and do trades accordingly to keep you happy. So you can have the best 1-2 punch at Center in the league, the best top1 defensemen in the league, coach and everything else.

Even if you get all that.. trust me you will still complain and always will.

Tough break for both Spezza and the Sens. I think we have to go out and get another centre. Still this could greatly damage our playoff hopes.

I would MUCH rather have playoff hockey than a top ten pick. A second round exit (i.e. a playoff series win!) would be amazing, in my opinion.

I don't think so...

Leclaire has been out for a little less then half this season and we were still able to maintain a playoff spot. Say what you want, but Elliott has stepped up and looking at the big picture the team hasn't missed a beat. Same with Spezza, he along with Leclaire were both struggling for a bit before their respective injuries, and hopefully someone can step up in his place just like Elliott has.

Heading into the season I wouldn't have been upset either if the sens made it to the second round of the playoffs...

It's a no-brainer.

We have a core of guys who have been around for a while that need the confidence that would come from being in the playoffs and perhaps winning a round. Extra revenue would help our owner make positive decisions and we'd probably be able to attrace more free agents if need be.

We can't trade all of this for a top-ten pick. We had one last year, now we move forward!
