Some History
"THE TRADE"
On August 9, 1988, in a move that heralded significant change in the NHL, the Oilers traded Gretzky, along with McSorley and Krushelnyski, to the Los Angeles Kings for Jimmy Carson, Martin Gelinas, $15 million in cash, and the Kings' first-round draft picks in 1989 (later traded to the New Jersey Devils—New Jersey selected Jason Miller), 1991 (Martin Ručínský), and 1993 (Nick Stajduhar). "The Trade", as it came to be known, upset Canadians to the extent that New Democratic Party House Leader Nelson Riis demanded that the government block it, and Pocklington was burned in effigy outside the Northlands Coliseum. Gretzky himself was considered a "traitor" by some Canadians for turning his back on his adopted hometown, his home province, and his home country; his motivation was widely rumoured to be the furtherance of his wife's acting career.

Game Thoughts
Coming off a huge come from behind win in St. Louis the Edmonton Oilers are looking for their sixth straight win. I don't think I have ever said that before. This is the Oilers first game back at home after a road trip which saw them go 5-0-0. Setting a new team record. Lets hope the fans at Rexall will be fired up for this one.

This is sure to be a tough matchup as the Kings currently sit a top the Western Conference with the Sharks. A win tonight for the Oilers will again help immensely with the thought off the Oilers being in the playoff picture come Christmas.

This will the 2nd game of a back to back for the Kings. So hopefully the Oilers can catch them out of breath and tired since they have not played since friday.

Keys for the Oilers: Come out flying. Let JFJ, Stone, Stortini, Brule have free will in physical action and wear the Kings out, as again they just played last night in Van city.

DUSTIN PENNER - SAM GAGNER - GILBERT BRULE

These 3 had a huge game on friday vs. the Blues. They single handedly brought us back and won it for us. They combined for 9 points that game so look for them to be hungry again. Penner as well a know is now a consideration for the Canadian Olympic team so hopefully the thought of himself playing in Vancouver come February gets him even more hungry.

Anze Kopitar - Jon Quick(if he starts)
Kopitar is a crafty player that you always need to be aware of.

Jonathan Quick may not start since he is playing against the Canucks, but he is coming off the 1st star of week last week so I am sure he could be fired up. Just gotta get a lot a pucks on goal.

Good stuff. Save some lefse for me. We seem to have trouble with big clubs like the Kings. Here's hoping we can continue the streak.

I won't lie...no Oilers games for 3 days, coming off a 5 game winning streak. I'm very excited, and yet very worried.

Oh yeah, prediction:

I've gotta bad feeling about this one.

Tampa 4
Oilers 1

The boys are getting confident and seem like they may actually give a **** for the rest of the reason. Looking forward to see if they can continue their strong play at home.

Too bad i hear Souray may be out but I'm pumped to get Grebs back!

First home stand after a long, successful road trip...

I've got a bad feeling about this one. 3-2 in OT for the Kings.

GO OILERS GO. This is going to be a tough game, I have no idea about how this one is going to turn out... I'll be very very very happy if we win, and just as happy if we lose (DFF!)

And why are the Oilers games always the day before my finals??

So I took 5 minutes to write a 100% original song for this game, it's called:

God Save The Kings

God save the Kings
The DSFascist first-place regime
They made you a bandwagon fan
Potential playoffs meh

God save the Kings
Doughty ain't no human being
There is no future
In DL's dreaming

God save the Kings
We mean it man

God save the Kings
'Cause Smyth+Stoll+Greene is a LOT of money (ofcoursenothingcomparedtoHorcoffbutpointstandsnon etheless)
And your GM
Is not what he seems

Oh God save history
God save your mad trade (1988)
Hockey Gods have mercy
All dubious transactions are paid

God save the Kings
Lubo means it man

No future, no future,
No future for you
No future, no future,
No future for us (excepta6thwininarow)

No future, no future,
No future for you
No future, no future
For you (excepta2ndlossinarow)

Go Oilers!

Should be a fun game...

This is a tough game. Kings lost tonight, will be looking to rebound from a pretty smelly performance against a pretty smelly franchise in the Canuckleheads.

Looking forward to a hard fought game, lots of intensity, and a much better PP. It seems whenever the Oilers get a little time off, they come back with a piece of their game improved, so let's hope it's the PP tonight.

Oil 5-2 5th goal will be an empty netter.

1st line combines for 5 pts.

Yeah Penner should be getting Olympic consideration... sad fact is that Souray hasn't been anything like the Souray of last year... if he had been he'd likely be an easy candidate for the team as well.

No way do the Oilers pull out a win tonight.

6-1, Kings

Quinn foolishly leaves JDD in net for way too long, Kopitar gets a hatty, the only goal by the Oilers will be some ugly flukey thing in the 3rd period, followed up quickly by a stupid penalty taken by Moreau.....The Oilers will completely suck, fans will once again dive off the bandwagon and there will be even more crying about how the Oilers should just "tank the season" and we'll see another thread created about how fabulous Taylor Hall is and how if we only could get that first draft pick all will go right with the world...

Everytime I look at our line up, I can't understand how it is we continue to win. I hope the boys keep it up, but I have to think that the current roster has a long losing streak in them.

This is a good example of political randering....on the fence.
How about some positvity, that may help as fans when the Oilers play at home, have you glanced at our home record?

Randering?! WTF does that mean? Stop making up words.

Being positive about the team doesnt mean you have to be unrealistic about the team's chances. Take a look at our roster with a bit of objectivity and tell me that if we lost 7 or 8 in a row that you wouldnt be surprised.
