You aren't the only one who doesn't want Laraque. I'm pretty sure the Montreal Canadiens don't want him either. Big error in signing this guy, he has ZERO mobility.

You had the deal until you asked for the gum wrapper.

Well to be fair, Montreal probably didn't know that his spine was about to fall apart.

Seabrook and Ladd's toughness...Laraque deals with more toughness in his vegie burgers.

Derek Boogaard starts gets mad, what's Chicago going to do ? At least this way, you'll have Laraque following him around asking if he wants to fight after one punching your team out.

Then again, his presences keeps most other players in line.

Anyone who saw him play in Pittsburgh should have known that he was having back problems. He was starting to slip pretty hard in Pittsburgh. Laraque was signed because of a media witch hunt claiming the Habs weren't tough enough and that is why they lost against the Flyers. Never mind that our snipers were massively unlucky, and Biron had a horseshoe shoved so far up his a$$ he could taste the metal in the back of his mouth.

A knee jerk reaction by Gainey, and I'm as big a Gainey supporter as it gets.

I wouldn't be surprised if Phaneuf, Kovalchuck, S. Niedermayer and Hartnell find a new home in march.

The Maple Leafs will be hot, Grabovski and Primeau are out, Detroit will look for a good goalie, Anaheim will be busy...

As for the Habs the biggest move Bob could make would be to sign Plekanec !

Habs could use a veteran 4th line centre, a real warrior who's good at face-offs.

Hmm..how is Rod the Bod defensively? Maybe he'd be able/willing to play that 4th line C role for one (last?) playoff?

Gets complicated cuz it's not his contract year tho. They'd have to trade him in summer.

Brind'Amour is on the Cane's fourth line, he's badly considered right now... if he was placed on waiver i would pick him, but not in any other case

Rumour has it the Edmonton might be sellers at the deadline... anything they have that Montreal might want? Don't mention Penner or Hemsky or Gagner - you know its not gonna happen.

Interesting that in the West, there are only 10 teams left in the play-off race. Teams 11 through 15 are too far back to catch either Los Angeles or Vancouver (Minnesota in 11th is 8 pts back, while St. Louis, Anaheim, Columbus and Edmonton are also out.)

In the East, only Carolina is out, while Toronto is close to being too far back to catch or jump over anyone (6 pts from 8th). There's only 4 points separating 13th place Florida from 7th place Montreal, so the East is tight.

Carolina should make Whitney available. They're not going to trade away any young players and I think Whitney is by far they're best trading chip/asset.

Toronto could sell Ponikarovsky (UFA) and send Toskala (UFA) to a team that needs/wants a veteran back-up goalie. I don't see Stajan (UFA) being that valuable in the play-off market. Too soft, doesn't have great offensive or defensive stats and has only 3 games of NHL playoff experience which occurred before the lock-out. Poni's size and scoring ability (he's on his way to another 20 goal season) should interest a lot of teams. It'll depend obviously on whether Burke thinks Poni has a future with the Leafs or not.

In Edmonton I think it's more about who they want to keep because I think most players are available. Mike Comrie (UFA) has been a trade deadline deal before, so I wouldn't be surprised if he goes, although he's been out since Nov. 18 with mono and has played only 16 games. Any team looking for scoring depth especially at centre would probably want him. Ottawa always seemed to like the guy so maybe he winds up there. After him, there's Moreau & Staois.

St. Louis I imagine will want to move Kariya (UFA), and Anaheim Koivu although their best trading chip is Neidermayer. He should easily get them a first round draft choice but he will have a say in where he moves. I just hope he doesn't go back to NJ, or goes to Boston, although Boston has the assets to get him especially with them having T.Os first round draft choice this year.

Minnesota: Eric Belanger (UFA). I don't know who else would be availble there. Same with Columbus who could move Sammy Pahlsson (UFA) but other than that...I wouldn't mind getting someone like Jared Boll on our team. Big, fast, nasty, sticks up for teammates and can fight.

The wild card is, of course, Ilya Kovalchuk, who likely is a rental player since he wants a ton of money in his next contract.

Could we get Poni + Toskalol for a 2nd + Anaheim 4th?
Toskala, although I believe is a very, very, very bad player could be okay in a backup capacity. Poni could be good on the 2nd or 3rd line, more realistically the third line.
Then, trade Halak to Detroit? I don't really know what they could give, but Halak in Detroit would be quite good.

I'd really like for us to trade for Saku. Metro is cool and all, but he's slowed down, is better fit for the 4th line (quality style), and Saku could replace him on pp, which would be a definite upgrade. All in all, it really makes sense. I'd like to see Saku play with Sergei and Patches, while Metro goes with Laps and Moen. That's be great.

Who could be available at deadline from the Habs ?

- Pleckanec if Gainey know he will not sign with us
- Halak to end up the goalie debate

This is pretty much it, not sure Habs will see much action at trade deadline.

It was last season the best time for Habs to trade at deadline, Kovalev, Koivu, Komisarek just to name those can land prospects / picks... what Gainey did is getting the old Mathieu Schneider and a quick 1st round exit (and lose all those players for nothing in July).
