All I can say about gomez is thank god that plekanec has stepped up and produced like a #1 centre. I think by saying that gomez is playing with inferior linemates (which he is) is not a great excuse because there was a point in time that plekanec was in the same situation but making except he was more out of the situation

Anyways, I have to say that I liked gomez's compete level tonight. If he keeps this up, things will turn around for him.

yeah pleks had different wingers every game for 25 games. (some exaggeration). but yeah it is true gomes returned from injury not long ago. if he's only good with gio, then it's cool cause at least we did sign the one guy that could complete him if there ever was one. with pouliot hopefully contributing in the near future, we should be able to pull of 2 scoring lines.

What I want from Gomez is AT LEAST, being the best player of the team from time to time. Of course, he is not the reason why the team lost but i just dont think he works that hard to help the team win. With the way he is playing, I think he plays just good enough to not look bad. He reminds me of Plekanec last season. Works hard, but just not hard enough.

For those who said he is playing well, do you think he is actually the best Habs? In his 31 games so far this season, he was one of the 3 stars, twice. He had ONE really good game, it was against the Trashers, he was named the 1st star of the game, it was the only game.

?

prior to his injury, he put up 11pts in 17 games... and that's generously excluding the last 5 games before he sat out, where he had 0pts/5games.

since being back, he's got 5pts in 9 games... I guess you could call that "putting up points"

either way, it's not like he's producing that much less with "crappy linemates". bottom line is that he is not producing this year, period. Injury and linemates have very little to do with it.

what would happen to the rest of gomez' contract if he were to retire. and then make a comeback. the team pays him off with a bunch of bonuses and molson shares. he comes back with a new, cheap contract? sorry, reefer.

I'm not sure but I think he would still be under contract. If not, that's a really big loophole.

From what I remember im pretty sure you need to be retired for at least a year before the contract kicks in again

Did you hear a commentator say that or is it because your son makes those same mistakes in his Midget BB games every week? Plekanec is one of the few bright spots on this horrible team.

Did anyone not know the Devils would tie it up on some fluke goal and eventually win it late? I could of called that scenario a mile away

Let's not forget one thing.

Habs are taking LOADS of penalties and Martin is using Plecky a lot for the PK.

Why are people wondering why he doesn't have fresh legs when jumping on the ice for a 5-on-5 shift?

besides the fact that the team always finds a way to lose against the devils, the fact that hammer went down with markov already out was what convinced me that this game was going to slip away. My dad was watching this game with me and the moment hammer left the ice, I already told him that I knew the habs were going to lose, I just wondered how painful it was going to be. Wouldn't you know it, it was one of the more painful ones this year... about 150 seconds away from one point.

Trust me, this was pretty much the worse performance by the Devils all season. They played like crap. This was even worse than the game against the Panthers last week. They had no jump, they were lazy with the puck and they had horrible passes. I think the only reason they walked away with 2 pts was cause Montreal was playing just as bad.

So yeah, I agree with you guys, this was a pretty boring game. But watch some of our other games, they aren't usually like this. Devils are actually more of a puck possession team and when they get it going, they pretty much hold onto the puck all night.

As for criticizing our players and our system. Just remember Kirk Muller was a Devil. Our system is a modified version that the Candiens used to play a long while back, and most of our coaches used to be ex-canadiens.

As for our fans, Devils fans are a very cynical lot. They boo louder than they cheer, they rather boo the Rangers (even when they are not playing) than cheer on the Devils. They rather boo Gomez. As for attendance, our fans rather sit home and watch it on TV than to pay the high price for those tickets.

A nice recap of yesterday's game.
Hamrlik injured, Price’s soft glove and a boring game ->http://hockeyindependent.com/blog/?p=7871
