Nathan Horton?

This team needs a significant ass kicking to wake the **** up. A friend of mine on another board just pointed out that Nathan Horton has been playing very well for a couple of weeks now. What do you think that would cost us to get him here? According to you, what's his value right now?

I was thinking about something along the lines of Dubinsky + Sanguinetti/Mcdonagh + Rozsival + a 1st for, Horton + Ballard + add something to sweeten the deal if necessary. This is pure speculation of course. Horton is 24, on pace for 78 points (25 + 53), can play both RW and C, and has a cap hit of 4M until the end of the 12/13 season. Ballard is 27 with a cap hit of 4,2M until 13/14.

The fact is I'm missing the Rangers salute.

Discuss.

I would be for this except for the fact that if we bring Ballard over he'll kill Henrik and then they'll really be screwed.

Seriously though, Horton has been consistent as of late, but Dubi, and a 1st along with a with a promising prospect for them both doesn't seem like a good move in my opinion. That sweetener would be a necessity and even then I'm not sure.

Horton has been on fire and has a sweetheart cap hit, panthers are also without David booth still. No way in he'll anyone is prying him out of Florida right now.

Edit: just saw you included a first...are you crazy? That pick is untouchable at the present moment

I'm not a trade proposition specialist, be indulgent plz. That's why I'd like to have some enlightened opinions.

The fact is we have to give something in return, and we also have to give something to get rid of Rozsival. Sather can't pull a Gomez twice the same year.

I'd rather waive him or buy him out before trading away that pick

I wanted Horton here two years ago, but hey, alot of teams fans want him, he's a big forward who goes to the net and has very good skill. Come on, he's their leading scorer, you think they can't wait to trade that in?

Florida would ask for way too much.

Getting Horton out of Florida at this point is damn near impossible I'd imagine. He's been playing great hockey recently.

Ballard? He's probably Florida's best player. Nice throw in suggestion.

He might be a nice player and all but how does Nathan Horton turn around an entire team that is struggling?

IMHO this team is not a trade away from righting the ship.... So why make the trade if it doesn't significantly improve the team?

Rangers need to drop the hammer on Rozsival this season and Redden the next.... They need to concede that this will be a re-tooling (rebuilding) season and forget about doing anything in the post-season (if we even make it there).

I agree. When Horton is on, I love his game, but he isn't the answer for this mess.

I really don't see Florida having any reason to think about trading him anyway.

I love both of those players, but the 1st from the Rangers shouldnt be included in ANYTHING! We are 4th from the bottom. If they stay around there(and all it would take is an injury to Gaborik or Hank) than that pick would most likely be a perennial all-star.

Yeah, and Lundqvist sure wouldn't want him around

Hey Wolf!

I agree. there's no one move that's going to turn this season around unless it's a blockbuster. Even then there are no guarantees.
The best thing the NYR can do is hang tight and play the hand they're dealt right now.

Become sellers at the trade deadline and go from their. This season should be about development and correcting past mistakes, not creating new ones.

I don't see this move as a desperate move to right the ship this season, but that should improve the team nonetheless. Our depth at center actually is just brutal, Horton would provide us a legit #1C who's not even in his prime yet. This kind of move is necessary and we'll have to make it at some point this season or next summer. How long are we going to lure ourselves considering Dubinsky as a legit first line pivot? And we can't wait for Anisimov to finish his development. We need to get stronger down the middle. That won't make of us a contender, but our offence will definitely be upgraded.

Getting rid of Rozsival and getting in return a 24 years old #1 C is definitely not what I'd call creating new mistakes. Horton is 5 years younger than Gomez or Drury when they signed here, and his cap hit is far from being outrageous, half what the 2 others got...

I should rephrase...

I like Horton alot, and would love to have him here. He wouldn't turn the season around but he's a very good player we could go forward with. that's how we have to look at things now.

I don't see how Florida is parting with him though...
