Ruutu's not getting suspended, might get a little fine though
I'm glad the NHL made that call. Despite the outrage by the TSN panel last night, I simply couldn't see what all the fuss was about, when I watched the hit.
The fact that the refs evened up the call, by calling Buffalo penalty as quickly as possible ( while ignoring another blatant Senators foul in the process ), spoke volumes to me. I'm sure the refs saw the replay on the big-screen and decided an even up was in order.
The TSN panel was over-reacting big time. The hit wasn't from behind, and I saw nothing that indicated that Rutuu was specifically head-hunting. He simply mis-timed the hit....missed the player mostly, while catching his chin.
Good call by the league to not suspend him.
AS for Nick, it's too bad that he's out, but hopefully he'll return quickly!
You forgot our most important defence man anton volchenkov, who also was stung in the elbow where he dislocated it last night by mair who hit it really hard, but he came back to play.
Ah right on man, I knew I was forgetting someone important...always happens.
But yeah 8 injured players on the season, that's gotta be up there for tops in the league. #1 d-man, #1 center and #1 goalie and our best agitator and physical player and all for extended periods of time. B-R-U-T-A-L!!
I doubt there is any injury list as impressive as Detriot's
D Jonathan Ericsson (bone bruise in left knee) is out indefinitely.
C Darren Helm is day-to-day with a sore left wrist sustained Dec. 12.
LW Dan Cleary is out until mid-January with a separated shoulder sustained Dec. 9.
D Niklas Kronwall is out until mid-January with a sprained left medial collateral ligament suffered on Nov. 21.
RW Jason Williams is out until mid-January with a fractured right fibula sustained on Nov. 7.
C Valtteri Filppula is out until late December with a broken right wrist sustained on Oct. 29.
D Andreas Lilja is on long-term injured reserve due to concussion-like symptoms. He has been skating but remains out indefinitely.
LW Johan Franzen isn't expected to return until March due to a torn left anterior cruciate ligament, sustained Oct. 8.
Now go ahead and add Zetterberg to that list after tonight.
There are quite a few teams that have been hit by the injury bug worse than the Sens, so it's hard to feel sorry for the team. This is why you have depth. Injuries will happen. Neil and Leclaire will be back next week anyway.
The Avs, Oilers, Canucks, and Red Wings all come to mind.
Good news. With our two best players out, we need Foligno more than ever. Hopefully he can perform at the top of his game.
It's definitely a big upgrade for our team to have Foligno coming in on the 2nd line-ish and Keller being dropped off of the 4th line.
He was looking great before he went out, with lots of drives to the net with the pucks and good chances... as well as 5 points in his last 5 games.
Hopefully he still has the scratch in his head and remembers what he needs to do to play an offensive role in the NHL.
