is there not a thread on LGK driving this result? Either way, I don't think the Kings a really are contenders but it is great that people are actually asking that question.

I know we are all used to getting let down so I hope this team continues their strong play into the new year. This break is becoming more and more of a blessing each game that goes by.

Contenders for a top 6 finish in the West?

Sure.

Stay tuned for more moves this off season.

Well... My family is in Alaska So my 500 brothers and sisters are probably turning the tide... But yeah, Alaska has an extremely strong hockey fanbase in general. They mostly root for the Blues and Gomez, but there are a lot of fans of just about every team there.

I would be upset if this poll was about getting into the playoffs.

I'm inclined to answer "no, they're not contenders", but if they make the playoffs -- with the parity in this league, anything is possible.

Well we aren't Contenders. But we could always pull an Oilers or Canes playoff run and make it to the finals. Lets hope Quick can pull a Cam Ward

I'm a team player so I voted "yes", but we need to make the playoffs first, get a taste, then over the next few seasons, put the peddle to the floor. Running over a few Ducks along the way would be nice too.

So far only 7 people have voted from the state of Alaska, our lowest percentage comes from Michigan, who only has 14% that believes in us. I don't count Wyoming's 10% as they only have 10 voters in total.

I don't think we're push-overs in the playoff race, but a team that hasn't made the playoffs in as long as we have with little to no playoff experience in most of our impact players doesn't give you a cup contender 9 times out of 10.

Who'd have thought we'd take such a hit in Wyoming and S. Dakota.

It's such a silly question to ask for any team. The Stanley Cup is won at the end of the season, not in a poll. Legitimate contenders are anyone that can get into the post season. Anyone that can win.

Being an underdog can be a very advantageous thing. Once you're in the postseason, anything can happen...

Contender.

What is that?

A forecast based on past experience.

Based on past experience, would you expect the Kings to be on top of the West? 15-0-0 when leading after 2? The type of secondary scoring received? Winning at this rate despite losing the heart of the 1st line, 2nd line and 3rd line (Smyth, Stoll and Simmonds)...

Hossa predicted that the Wings would win the Cup when he left the Penguins.

So are the Kings contenders? An answer with a question. Is there a team in the league that you believe the Kings cannot beat over a 7 game series if the Kings play to their potential and get great goaltending from Jonathan Quick? My answer. No. Hence, the answer to the initial question. Yes. They are contenders.
