Sather Gone If Rags Lose?

http://hfboards.com/showthread.php?t=715476

Big discussion about this on the main board already. I wonder if the Oilers/Katz would offer him a front office job if that took place?

I think Sather's a great hockey guy and all, but I also think he's lost his touch.

I don't even know if he'd take a position here.

love him or hate him..he was the best GM oilers ever had...somehow managing to get teams with a 30 mill payroll into the playoffs and even upsetting seeds in the first round..

his time in new york has been another story altogether..

Good hockey guy who may be useful in sort of an advisory role. Maybe he could help with the arena. Shouldn't be put in a position where he can influence personnel decisions, though. He did what he could for us in the 90s, but his record in New York is nothing to write home about.

It would also be lousy if he had to end his GM career on a negative note though. Hopefully there's a way he can one day resign of his own accord.

I would say Torts gets canned opening the door for the one nhl job that is available for Mactavish.

*If* that stipulation is true, then that's the most idiotic thing I've read all day. How would winning or losing this game have any bearing whatsoever on somebody's acumen as a GM? As far as I'm concerned it'd be no different than Dolan flinging a coin in the air in front of Sather...heads your job is safe, tails you're out the door.

When these kind of ultimatums are made, the guy under the gun is a dead man walking anyway so he may as well resign on his own terms and save a sliver of pride.

That being said, this IS Dolan and Sather we're talking about. They probably take their underwear out of the same dresser drawer.

As bad as some of those contracts he (Slats) dished out are, it's the nature of the beast in New York. Every off-season they are obligated to go out and get the "best" player money can buy. It could be him, it could be Mike Millbury, it could be Brian Burke, it could be Mike Gillis. Whoever is in that position only has so much control, because the nature of the beast and the mentality of living, playing and doing everything "New York" takes over. He would be a mercy killing at that point. I think Tortorella is the problem personally. All he does is scream and yell, no ******** coach - which isn't necessarily a bad thing - but his message becomes obsolete after a short time, it's all wash, rinse and repeat with him.

MacT should get the coaching job there, IMO, before Slats gets the axe. They have some good pieces, need to restructure their blueline abit, it's not impossible. Goaltending and offensively they're good, Torts isn't getting the best out of the group.

lots and lots of pressure in NYR right now and it looks like that there is a lot of smoke under his feet and he is attached to a pole off some sort

That's not saying a lot when you look at the two useless clownshoes that have followed in his footsteps.

Nuh no. I'm not overwhelmingly happy with Tambo, but Slats would probably be a downgrade at this point. He made lightning in a bottle back in the day, but his best days as GM are probably behind him. Look forward, not back.

His pigs ears are silks so wormy only paper money perks them up momentarily...

Sather is perfect for putting out to pasture - more manure then backbone.

Do not want.

Maybe the next new Canadian franchise takes him on, and hires MacT as coach. Wouldn't that be something.

The question is

if the decision has been made to fire him if they lose one game--they should just sack him move on--Does this do more damage then good when you have these rumours~>

Rangers were outplayed for most of the game but Lundquist saved them - especially in the first 2 periods when he stopped 27 out of 28.
