Would GOMEZ get claimed off waivers?

Would GOMEZ get claimed off waivers? Why beat a dead horse?

Question: If Gomez were sent down to the AHL and upon 'recall' did not get claimed on waivers, would the Habs be required to pay his full salary or would they be able to pay a portion of his salary in terms of the "rules" involved?

GO Habs GO!

I do not think he will be claimed, considering his salary / production it is very unlikely.

The Habs are responsible for Gomez's full salary, regardless of whether he plays in the NHL or the AHL.

No I'm just tired of the whiny pm's I have to read whenever I make a decision. So screw it, I'm leaving every single stupid thread open from now on. This way people can see the stupidity that us mods have to read on a daily basis.

he would be playing well for a 1.5 mil player. but he's not.
come on, it's the highest level of hockey. you get a salary based on production. there is expectations.

If he gets put on a re-entry waivers does't the team who pick him up only pay HALF of his salary?

So 4 million. I think someone would pick him up. It's after thats the problem.

No one would claim him, no one claimed Nylander, geez no one claimed Ward from Carolina and there are teams hurting for D help too.

The salary is too high, and if he was sent down and then called up I believe he has to be placed on waivers twice to be claimed at half the cost...Montreal might as well buy him out if that is the case.

So if you can admit that he would be good if he was payed 1.5M, you can't say he is bad just because he is over-payed.. It's not like HE chooses that this year he wants to make that much money because HE thinks he will produce.. The GM over-payed him, he gave him too much money for the potential he has, so it's not his fault if he can't play up to that potential.

And why do we keep discussing Gomez and his salary? Gainey knew all this when he signed him.. I don't see why he would drop him or trade him like everybody wants..

Yeah Janne Niinima was great too for an 8th defensemen. Patrick Traverse was a great AHLer and Scott Gomez is a fine 4th line center.

yes, when you sign on the line, you accept the expectations that goes with the salary. it's called a competitive world.

by any reasonable definition of #1 centre, Gomez is not playing as well as a number 1 centre. At any salary.

At the salary he is collecting he's a ball and chain around this team's ankle.

Giving him away for nothing would be shortsighted. Although Gomez is having a subpar season, the Habs have no other offensive center to replace him with. It would also be a shocking development for Gionta.

no,
I agree with you that including his salary, he suck
Im not saying that Gomez is our savior or he's the best.

thats my only point. If you exclude his salary
he's a decent 2nd line center

I think you work your ass off to fill those expectations. Players do it all the time, they're out to prove that they can earn it and a lot of them do.
