Both...i woulda done what was necessary to bring in Heater in terms of cost, and I would have made his salary fit in as well. they are both elite players. you could stack one line, or you could spread out the offense, either way, they would have kicked ass over here as a tandem.

I think what Gaborik has done thus far in this team is about as much as you can do as a forward. Add that to the fact that Heatley would have cost some assets, it's Gaborik for me without a doubt.

Gaborik, easy.

We didn't need to give up any assets for him (I don't consider Gomez an asset and that wasn't a direct trade anyway). He has put up incredible numbers for us so far as well, and proven all the nay-sayers wrong in the best way.

Heatley is good, but we would've needed to give up assets.

Also consider that Heatley is playing with one of the best playmakers in the NHL and Gaborik is still putting up better numbers. Gabby has no legit playmaker either.

That's my take on it.

While they are both top 10 in the league, I think Gaborik is better at carrying a team than Heatley. IMO. Plus he requires less of a supporting cast.

89 to 1 when i posed,haha

What is there not to like about Gabby right now? and why would they want to lose Dubi?

Heatley is great but they made the right choice.

Gaborik because he's a much more complete player. Gaborik not only has a better shot, but is a much better passer and much better skater.

Heatley is more of a one-dimensional sniper. He wouldn't be able to carry a team on his own.

It wasn't going to be just Dubinsky and Rozsival. Rangers would have to have given a lot more then that. In some rumor packages that were out there, Del Zotto's name was in some.
Not sure why this is even being debated. Gaborik has been great.

well, to be fair, its kind of a loaded poll, i think there might be some more votes for Heatley if you didn't have to trade for him.

Not really, at least not for me. Gaborik has been a dominant player this year. He has great speed and has been a game changer who seems to find any way possible to score even with teams matching their best defenseman against him. I'd rather have gaborik easily and not because he;s on our team. I wanted gaborik over heatley in the summer even if we didnt have to trade for heatley. I've always loved gaborik's speed and shot. Sure he has had injury problems but we all knew he was capable of being a top 5 player in this league if he stays healthy and so far he has.

Plenty of players with histories of injuries continue to play at high levels, without getting injured again and many players who've managed to avoid injury early in their career, later have very serious ones (and just about everyone in this league is one hit away from a torn ACL or major concussion).

And while we can argue until the cows come home about talent, there's also character--how long would it have been before Heatley would have been moaning and groaning about something--especially if he ended up in Tortorella's doghouse?

Gaborik has been carrying this team with his talent and has been a great addition to the team in all aspects. He's been to great fun to watch--I'm even more amazed by his talent, now that I've been able to watch him live at the Garden for more than one game every other season--and it's very clear he's committed to the team for the long run. I didn't want Heatley regardless and I've seen nothing to change my mind.

ive always been a fan of Gaborik i advocated trading for him last season when he suffered his long term injury just to avoid getting to free agency. with that said, Heatley is an elite player as well every bit on level with Gaborik. IMHO they are very similar players in terms of their ability to carry a team offensively. If they were both free available, with only money at stake, id have a hard time making a choice... id probably go with Gaborik, just because of the explosive speed, whcih Heatley doesnt have...but i would have to think long and hard about it.

With the current Rangers roster you take Gaborik any day of the week.
If Rangers had a legit 1st line center gimme Heatley over Gaborik any day of the week.
