Touching on what Larry Brooks wrote on twitter and reading 13.15 in the CBA

These could be paper transactions. The Rangers possibly recalling both players after the roster freeze tonight. If both players were on the roster tonight, they could not be sent to Hartford but since they weren't on the roster at the time of the freeze, the Rangers could recall them and send them down during the freeze.

His 6 minutes tonight were very critical to picking up the W.

Except in certain cases (that don't apply here), a player's salary will only count against the salary cap for the year during the time the player is on the NYR roster. So if a player is assigned to Hartford, no salary paid during his time on the Hartford roster counts toward the yearly NYR cap.

Hopefully Redden plays like crap again and swaps places with either Sangs or Heiks in the AHL. Permanent-like.

As I pointed out in the game thread, his lack of playing time says much more about Tortorella's coaching style than it does about Heikkinen's play. Or Sanguinetti's, for that matter.

As far as I'm concerned, Redden should continue to ride the pine and Heikkinen should still be here, if not both of them. More minutes, too.

yeah, I'd love to have $6.5 mil tied up in Hartford for the next 4 and a half years. We need to find a better solution than that.

Who gives a crap about what's tied up in Hartford? I'd rather have 6.5 million off our cap so we can get, you know, a scoring forward or something. It's not like Redden is going to get BETTER over the next 4 years.

Mueller to Rangers (UA5)

They won't send them back to Hartford in this weather. It's just a paper move before the roster freeze tonight.

I sure hope so. Heikkinen didn't look out of place at all. I like his shot from the point.

Gilroy had four assists in four games with the Wolf Pack heading into last night, but he wasn't the lone candidate for recall. Righthanded shots Michael Sauer (2-5-7 in 25 games) and Corey Potter (3-6-9 in 31) also were possibilities. Potter played five games and Sauer three for the Rangers last season. Neither was deemed more NHL-ready than Gilroy in training camp.

I woudlnt mind seeing some of Sauer. While the fact he hasnt been called up long means he probably wont become a shutdown guy, it'd be nice considering he was a 2nd round pick to see if he can be a top 4 guy considering our defense is...

Staal; 1B
Rozsival/Redden(2nd pairing)- likely will be gone at some point
Girardi(Good 3rd pairing dman)
and MDZ(PP specialist? potential to be top 4)

What that group is really missing is a hitter(Kundratek?) a 1A guy (McDonagh?) and a top 4 shutdown guy (Sauer?)

Oh noes, Glen had some beans tonight. Maybe he's having fun with NHL 10 and seeing which trades get accepted and rejected so he can get some ideas.

I dunno, sounds legit.

Call me crazy, and I understand why they sent him down, but I think Sangs look pretty good out there today.

To whoever it was who asked, Dandenault is hurt.

And regarding the possibility that Potter or Sauer are called up instead of Gilroy (or Sangs or Heikkinen)... it won't be Potter. He's still playing like crap.

Honestly, my gut is that this is nothing more than a paper move and that either Sangs, Heikkinen or both will play on Monday.

it would have to be Redden and/or Gilroy. The holiday trade freeze goes till the 27th.

Getting to Hartford right now is not easy. Not in the snowstorm. Redden can play Monday and Kotalik will be scratched. Hopefully he will not be paired with Redden.

According to Carp, Rangers are recalling Gilroy. Looks like Gilroy and Redden will be back in the lineup for Monday.

Thought the same thing. I want to see Sangs get a few more games in a row. He just needs to be a little quicker overall to be very effective. Looks pretty composed when he has the puck and was looking to take the shot. I see a lot of potential, especially when he fills out that NHL frame.

One thing that really stands out to me though is how good MDZ is after 35 games. Shows how advanced he is being 2.5 years younger than Sangs but looking so much more advance than someone who does have excellent potential. I would love to see a long term core of Staal, MDZ and Sanguinetti with the potential to add McDonagh and others in the next few years.
