Value of Brule/Penner to Buffalo and why the hell aren't they on the no-trade list?

Why must Oiler fans start these types of threads after every loss?

The sky is falling don't you know?

I'd put six forwards and Laddy on the no-trade list - Gagner, Brule, Penner, Hemsky, Eberle, and MPS.

Not much value out of the rest of them aside from Lubo or Souray (who I'd hate to see go).

So everyone worth something other than Visnovsky and Souray aren't available?

option a) you walk into a store and the shopkeeper says: "you cant have this, this, this, this, this, or this. Now, what would you like?"

option b) the shopkeeper says: "you can have this, this, this, this, this, or this. What would you like?"

think about it...
List your 10 most valuable assets beyond your untouchables, and a player or two will certainly catch the eyes of the customer.

The Oilers need to do a REAL rebuild, they've spent to much money on older talent in order to attempt to compete now, and it's failed year after year. I'd move anyone on the team in the right deal, that would make the team younger and give it more potential. They need to offer up guys like...

Vish
Souray
Penner
Gilbert
Moreau
Staios
POS

I know how good Penner has been, but the guy's value has never been higher and he only has 2 more years left on his deal, and the Oilers will not be ready to compete within 2 years. That is why they need to move him now and start to build through the draft. This team has never had a draft pick higher than 4th overall, and they botched that pick by taking Bosignore. They need a couple picks in the top 4, over the next 3 or 4 years. They have some nice pieces in MPS, Eberle, Brule, Gagner, JD, etc. But they need a lot more. Look at Pitts, they got Crosby at #1, Malkin at #2, Fleury at #1, J. Staal at #2. They are good for one major reason...because they were so bad for a long time, and got very lucky in the Crosby sweepstakes. The Oilers need to get worse before they can better. It's as simple as that, and it's something that they've never done.

It's about being bad at the right time though, look at the Thrashers high first rounders:

Stefan(1)
Heatley(2)
Kovalchuk(1)
Lehtonen(2)
Cobourn(8)
Valabik(10)
Bourret(16)
Little(12)

and the drafting they've done in the later round has been poor, Enstrom being the only stand out.

I suppose I don't have to even tell you that we wouldn't do that.

What if I said 1st, Oduya, Bergfors?

Isn't it obvious? Look at the players he has as not available, and see what they have in common.

Why go for small forwards like Nicklas Bergfors? Most of Edmonton's top six forward core group (except for Penner) is in the 5'10 to 6' range. The Oilers don't need another 5'11 forward in Bergfors. The team needs to get bigger at the top six forward positions.

A trade like this between the oilers and the panthers.

To Florida
Lubomir Visnovsky
Andrew Cogliano

To Edmonton
Nathan Horton
2nd or 3rd round pick

**** no.

Visnovsky is Top 5-10 in the league right now for Defense. To trade him for inconsistent Horton would be just stupid. Actually Horton would fit quite well in our inconsistent system.

The Oilers should trade for 1sts and prospects.

Yeah, that baffled me. I'd do the second but Pandolfo has a NTC, so.

I also don't get the avoidance of Oduya. He's a solid, albeit unspectacular, top-4 defenseman who has shown a proclivity for amassing large numbers of points 5v5. He's also redundant for New Jersey at the moment, which is why he's available, but it's not like he's there as a salary dump.
