youd be hard pressed to say "best fight ever" and then mention a fight from the post lockout era...guys like probert, grimson, domi, kocur, mcsorley, vukota...those are all guys that i remember watchign growing up. and all their fights were nuts, constant bombs back and forth.
no offense, but rick rypien being mentioned as best fight you have ever seen is nuts

That's the best I've seen.

I can't believe it but I'm actually agreeing with an Islander fan here Rypien's a nice fighter but it's a bit too early to mention him in the likes of Probert, Domi, Kocur, Mcsorley, etc.

WOW at Probert. McSorley has his jersey over his head and doesn't know what's going on, Probert waits till he's in a safer position to punch him. Later Mcsorley falls down on his knees, Probert had time to launch a major KO punch, but waited till McSorley got back up

.

Best fight I ever saw was Troy Mallette v. Twist I believe

these two guys that did not stop and did not try to block anything.

Another classic was Mike Keane and Scott Walker

both guys changed hands twice during the fight and not quick changes. They changed because they got tired throwing punches.

Awesome tilt right there.

Some of the better scraps I've seen(will track down youtubes when I'm not at work)...

Coxe vs. Probert - these two had some absolutely epic tilts.
Walker vs. Keane - so many punches thrown--and landed--in that fight. Just unbelievable.
May vs. McRae was pretty epic. Loved May's happy feet at the start, Jeanerette's call was awesome, and the big bomb May lands to end the fight was outstanding. Look at the reaction of the crowd and the players and tell me fighting doesn't belong in the game.

Last years fight between Staubitz and Tootoo is my favorite in the past several years. Got to give extra points for the amount of blood. I don't know how to put the video in but it is easy to find on hockey fights or you tube.

Nobody is comparing Rypien with the likes of Probert, Kocur whoever.

It just best fight ever, mostly most entertaining.

Somehow I always liked the fight between Jim Vandermeer and Downey. I think many people have forgotten it.

one of the best I've ever seen was Brashear vs Peters on Dec 26, 2006... watching Brashear's helmet *POP* off his head with one punch...

Dude you gotta check out this new thing called the internet. It lets you watch video clips of fights that happened before you were born but... TODAY! It's like having your own time machine! I personally use it to check stats of my favorites like NHL player Derek Morris but there's fight videos on there too, guaranteed.

Awards:
20 years ago this week, Buffalo-Detroit. Probert runs Barrasso twice early in the game, so Maguire takes it upon himself to settle up and runs one of the Chevy's who was in net for the Wings. He then gets into it with Gallant, and dusts up Gerry. Yzerman comes over and he pummels Yzerman after Steve makes the mistake of trying to get to him while he's being escorted off.

Off course, Probert goes in with the whaling sucker punches after Maguire is down and held by the refs. People hail that coke head for his abilities -- drunk and coked up, I'm sure any big man could be ferociously mean and feel no pain either.

The worst part for Maguire is that Phyllis Housley was on the ice for Buffalo and was completely unwilling to try to get in Probert's way in the scrum. Phil was a bigtime puss and that cemented his status in town as being concerned for himself and not his teammates.
