You can chalk it down, that was a wasted pick. Even Backman showed more offensive flair than ive seen from the supposed offensive defenseman in Rundblad. There was a time on the Swedes pp in the 3rd period where he literally just stood there at the side of the net motionless for like 20 seconds. He's terrible 1 v 1, turns the puck over about 50% of the time, and has no work ethic on the ice. This was a boom or bust pick and there simply is no boom. Let's hope Jarmo can do better at the next draft with our top 5 pick. We need a game breaker like Taylor Hall or Tyler Seguin although I've been really impressed with Cam Fowler so far.

Im glad someone else saw that!
but think back to our last years mock drafts, we wanted Krieder at that pick, some wanted Josefson (who i wasnt impressed with at the WJC either), and i somewhat remember Drew Shores name being thrown around. But we were all shocked when another defenceman got picked, not only in the first round, but 2nd as well.
We do say 'In Jarmo we trust' for a reason. So its not a secret that they want to build from the back end up. So lets give him some time, he's playin against the big boys in Sweden, so lets wait till he comes to the AHL or even the Blues before we make any rash decisions.
Worst case scenerio he can be traded, to bring in a scorer (Eric Staal)
But if not than 3-4 years down the road, EJ,Petro, Rund, Cole, Cola (maybe), Polak?
not a terrible 6 right there.
Sucks to hear about Rundblad, my friend said he was awful last night and couldn't believe he was a 1st round pick. I'm just hoping this tournament will test his mettle and really get him focused on what he needs to work on from this point on. I feel like a lot of guys picked in the 1st round from the '09 draft are having solid years, but our's seems to be the one with the greatest bust potential so far.

Thats who I was enamored with at the time. So far he has been back and fourth, but that should be expected with a guy in his situation.
It's still way too early to say anything on Rundblad, but right now the signs are obviously poor.
Kreider has not exactly been lighting the world on fire, either, though.
I was in love with Stepan before the draft and wished we'd go after him, especially with his connection Murray through that Shattuck-Mary school, and man he's been awesome. I don't remember where he got drafted, though, and if it would have been a realistic pick for us.

Murray only coached there one year in 98-99. I don't think that's much of a connection to a kid who's now only, what, around 18?
Pietrangelo took a retaliation penalty, standing up for his teammate. I like to see such loyalty, and willingness to play physically, but it was not a smart thing to do.
Allen is having a TERRIBLE game. All 3 goals were weak. He almost gave up a 4th a few seconds ago, when he only got part of it, and it trickle d off his back and almost crossed the line, before a defenceman cleared it. Then, on the return rush, Canada scored on Lee (who has also looked terrible).
I can't remember seeing BOTH goalies play so poorly in a championship game.
That sucks, I was really hoping he'd have a strong game tonight. Outside of Petro, it doesn't sound like our prospects are having the strongest tournament. Hopefully Allen plays great in the 3rd...with the US still winning of course. Thanks for the info Robb
Allen's last 7 saves have been very good. Whatever lack of confidence he had seems to be gone. USA had taken Lee out after the 3rd goal, and Campbell has been playing really well. So, it's good that Allen has ramped it up.
If USA wins this, it will be a greater victory than the Miracle in 1980 because they would've had to beat a team 3 times, not just once. Seriously, the Canadians wait all game for 1 break....and then bam...you're dead. Still say win or lose, I'm so proud of this team, that wasnt a choke job that was high way robbery and those players didnt deserve it, but those are the breaks. I hope the game ends on a good goal and some garbage. They said 4 on 4 for 20 minutes, then shootout...should be interesting and probably wont take that long.
