Michael Leighton on waivers

Leighton on waivers because Cam Ward is expected back this week. Ward is likely to start on Wednesday.
Curious as to what they are doing here. Perhaps just praying somebody picks him up, and if not Legace gets sent down. Or maybe they are just going to send Leighton down and pay him an NHL salary to be a scratch in Albany.

bah, we are going to have an extra goalie.

Nobody in they right mind is going to pick up Leighton.

Peters has been great in Albany, and Murphy was getting in to the groove as well.

I'd hate to see Leighton stealing minutes from our prospects.

and if they are not going to play him, would it be less expensive to buy out his contract rather than have him as a healthy scratch?

I'm fairly certain you can only buy out contracts during a certain window in the summer.

I think DaleCooper is correct about buyouts.

Makes sense to see if anyone picks up Leighton. You can either risk Legace on waivers and send him down for salary savings ($105K vs. $500K) or send down Leighton for very small cap savings ($600K vs. $500K.)

Since there isn't room for Leighton in Albany, I think it's largely a procedural move. See if anyone bites now, which is unlikely, but possibly have another team claim him on re-entry waivers at half-price.

I'd sure rather have Legace backing up Cam than the Fainting Goat

Leighton's stats don't lie. He is a very below average NHL goaltender. Keeping Legace is a no brainer.

I guess that's possible, especially for a team close to the cap with a workhorse #1. San Jose seems the most likely as they are right up against the cap and paying Leighton $300K to open the door makes more sense than paying Greiss $550K.

If that's all there was to it, you'd be right, but alas...there's that pesky issue of money.

I am pretty sure you can buy-out anyone you want during the regular season as long as they clear waivers first. I may be mistaken though.

That picture is just so...

I dunno...I've got quite a few adjectives that all seem appropriate.

Flyers lost Emery. They'll probably go after Biron, but I wonder if we could trade them Legace for a 3rd-4th round pick.

Would Legace really be an upgrade over Boucher? Id be surprised if they dont make a run at Biron or a young guy like Harding since i think they have seen enough of Emery to realize he isnt a #1 and wont be resigned in the offseason.
