Line "Balance"

I was thinking about the lines Quinn has been using and his insistence on maintaining the ‘2 skill guys with 1 crusty guy’ motto. Does anyone think this actually works? I don’t. I didn’t like when Quinn first talked about it at the beginning of the season and I like it even less now .

It’s my opinion that lines should be balanced by way of skill/speed sets. If I were the guy behind the bench, that would be my approach. I much prefer keeping skill with skill – which would generally give the line more offensive options.

Was JFJ-Horcoff-Hemsky a success? I think not. Neither is JFJ/Stone – Horcoff – O’Sullivan. I’ve also noticed that Quinn will often start the game with the 2/1 “balance” and then when he sees it’s not working yet again, he starts switching things around and then all the players seem to be out of whack because they don’t know who they’re out there with or what their role is supposed to be. It just seems to cause a lot of confusion. Why not really change things up and take a more traditional approach by creating 2 scoring lines, a shut down line and an energy line?

Quinn has called out his guys for being “dumb” on more than one occasion and has repeatedly pleaded with them to keep it simple. But, it seems to me the coaching staff needs to heed its own words of wisdom.

Lately, that first line hasn’t been looking very good, in my opinion. I’d like to see things changed up and throw these lines together – and then keep them together for 7-8 games or so until they all get acquainted. This is what I’d do with the roster we have right now:

Penner-Gagner-Horcoff
O’Sullivan-Brule-Nilsson
Moreau-Potulny- Cogliano
Jacques-Stortini-Stone

Just thought I’d throw it out there to see what everyone else thinks….

I think Penner and Gags have a lot of chemistry this year, especially recently.

Same with Horcoff and Nilsson.

So why not try Patty O up on the first line, and put Brule with Horcoff and Nilsson?
