Baseball's draft is the biggest crap shoot there is. I'd be reluctant to kill any baseball team for a shoddy draft record. Its a ridiculously expansive pool to navigate and the development time is longer and more treaturous than NFL, NHL, NBA.

What's the success rate of MLB's best drafting teams (picking a guy, guy gets to majors)? 20%? Higher, lower? How much better is that than the bad drafting teams?

Baseball rules for three reasons -- sun, beer, hot dogs.

It's not their draft record that the Pirates get killed on, it's a general cheapness when it comes to drafting. Taking worse prospects just because they are cost less to sign.

I have no response, that is perfect.

Evan Turner just hit the shot of his life at the buzzer to down Michigan in the Big Ten tourney. 37 foot jump shot at the buzzer! Damn that kid has got the goods. POY for sure!

He does, for sure, and Buford held up his end. Others, not so much. Having Diebler try to guard anyone on a college team at any level is a form of darkest comedy. And without Lauderdale on the court, there is no inside defense. And playing only six men will not work if one plans to play three games in three days. And...I'm done. Nice win.

For example, they've passed up the likes of Tim Lincecum and Matt Wieters just to save money. If they draft both, and pony up the couple million to sign them, they'd have them under team control for at least 6 years, and they'd be alot more competitive. It's their ownership being cheap and bad drafting that makes them suck. The Rays are good because they draft well.

Last couple drafts they finally started spending more, they signed Pedro Alvarez who alot of people thought they'd pass up because of his demands, and they're spending more on international free agents. Under Neal Huntington (who came from the Indians), things are finally starting to look better for the Buccos.
The team's ownership is inept, for sure, but to say they've failed because they can't draft? It's not like they've looked objectively at the available players and said player A is better than player B. That's poor drafting. In fact, their poor drafting is a function of baseball's economics - you say as much in your post.

I'd like to personally thank the Oregon Ducks for classing up NCAA football. Oh, and for taking some heat of OSU as the team that has guys get arrested a lot.

Mega housecleaning going on in Cleveland.

Hey, at least they're not getting more Jets rejects at this point. I may go ahead and call that progress.

Buh Bye Brady

http://www.cleveland.com/browns/inde...e_brady_q.html

Quote:
CLEVELAND, Ohio -- The Browns have traded quarterback Brady Quinn to the Denver Broncos. The Browns will receive fullback Peyton Hillis and a sixth-round pick in 2011 and a conditional draft choice in 2012 for Quinn, who began last season as the team's starting quarterback.

Quinn became expendable after the Browns traded for Senaca Wallace and reached an agreement on a two-year deal with Jake Delhomme on Saturday.

It's a common thread among Ohio teams...

Spend heavily on mediocrity in the hopes that they become stars.

Timeless Winter is Mike Holmgren. It explains a lot.

In other news, Ohio State is a #2 Seed in the NCAA Tournament. First opponent is UCalifornia-Santa Barbera.

I'll make sure to tune into Jim Rome to see what he thinks about this soon to be classic match up.

He's a UCSB alum.

NCAA Basketball:

Since I'm a Buckeye 100% stuck in Louisville for a few years (Louisville is a sweet town btw) if Kentucky and Ohio State win out to make the final four this fan will make OSU proud in Louisville!

Just sayin...

I think the most awesomest moment was when CBS switched away from the game because it was a blowout.

Congrats to the Bobcats and their fans - that was fun to watch. That Cooper kid was amazing.

Here's hoping that they pull off another win tomorrow.

I can't think of anything sweeter than a OSU vs Ohio showdown... Tennesse may object though.
