Carolina is still looking to deal Matt Cullen, he is a good player to add for a team looking to make a run this year. PM if interested.

Toronto's 'Deadline Sale'

Looking to move some assets before tomorrow at good prices:

Mayers- Almost anything, Long-shot prospect, pick upgrade
Frogren- Same as Mayers
Exelby- Middling prospect, mid-pick, pick upgrade
Stempniak- Same as Exelby

Others can be discussed, but not at bargain basement rates.

VESA TOSKALA is now on re-entry waivers. Will only cost a pro-rated 2M (approx. 425k) for the stretch run.

Avalanche Solidify Roster

The Avs have made two moves to help solidify the roster for the playoffs.

The first saw the Avs trade long-time veteran John-Michael Liles, prospect Trevor Cann and their 2011 2nd Round selection to the Washington Capitals for Mike Knuble, John Erskine, and Michael Neuvirth.

The second move saw them acquire Lee Stempniak from the Maple Leafs for Russian prospect Denis Parshins and their 4th round selection in the 2010 draft.

The Avs roster now looks like:

Wojtek Wolski – Paul Stastny – Lee Stempniak
TJ Galiardi – Matt Duchene – Chris Stewart
Mike Knuble – Michael Frolik – Milan Hejduk
Cody McLeod – Ryan O’Reilly – Brandon Yip
Greg Campbell

Scott Hannan – Kyle Quincey
Ryan Wilson – Matt Greene
John Erskine/Adam Foote – Kyle Cumiskey
John Erskine/Adam Foote

Craig Anderson
Peter Budaj
Michael Neuvirth

The Avs managed to add a lot of size and grit to their defense, and added two offensive veterans to their offense. We also added a fantastic young goaltending prospect that could be the future of our franchise.

Stempniak also had wonderful chemistry with Stastny several years ago, Avalanche management believes that he can once again be a solid player with this recent change of scenery.

Confirmed. An expiring UFA that couldn't help us this season. In return we get two assets that may turn into something in the future, if we can sneak Parshin out of Russia in a duffel bag or something

You wouldn't need to, Parshin could fit in a large purse or a backpack of small-moderate size.

Washington confirms. With the way Fleischmann and Fehr have played so far this year Knuble had become somewhat expendable. This team needed help on defence, especially moving the puck and have that in Liles. They also dump a bit of salary in Erskine which will hwlp them deal with the cap next year.

Marty Turco available for a prospect (and a salary dump with expiring contract if needed). Not looking for a top prospect, but the player needs to at least have some potential to become an NHL player.

Mike Ribeiro will be traded in the offseason.

The Calgary Flames are Pleased to announce the arrival of two players into the Flames Family. C Derek Roy and D Garnett Exelby.

C Derek Roy in exchange for C Olie Jokinen, LW/RW David Moss, C Mitch Wahl, Bost 1st rd pick in 2010, TBL 2nd rd pick in 2010

and D Garnett Exelby for
A.Johnson, Kronwall, and Prospect Brett Sutter (Centreman)

We would like to extend our thanks to Olie, David, Mitch, Aaron, Staffan and Brett for their time within our Organization and their contributions to the Calgary area. We feel that Buffalo and Toronto are gaining quality players for their organizations and we wish them well.

Calgary GM Halifaxhab was quoted as saying

"Derek was acquired to play on our top line with Iggy and Marco and we expect him to reach his PPG pace again now that he has a true superstar player on one wing and a legitimate top 6 threat on the other. His cap friendly contract that runs for 3 more seasons made him a very desirable commodity to us, especially after contract talks with Olie broke down."

The GM had this to say about the Exelby deal,

"Garnett adds depth and grit to our Defence for this years playoffs. Kronwall and Johnson are quality NHLers but Exelby offers us that extra sandpaper that is needed in the Wester Conference to succeeed in the playoffs. We hope that he decides to remain with us long term. We expect to open talks with him and Morris after the deadline has passed".

HURRICANES TRADE-DEADLINE RECAP

SUBTRACTIONS: Drayson Bowman (F-Traded-20), Ray Whitney (F-Traded-37), Joe Corvo (D-Traded-32), Scott Walker (F-Traded-36), Stephane Yelle (F-Traded-35), Aaron Ward (D-Waived-36), 1st 2010 (CAR).

ADDITIONS: Brad Staubitz (F-Prospect-25), Brian Lee (D-NHL-22), Michael Ryder (F-NHL-29), Matt Hunwick (D-NHL-24), Peter Mueller (F-NHL-21), Logan Couture (F-Prospect-20), Andre Petersson (F-Prospect-19), Patrick Wiercioch (D-Prospect-19), Alex Tanguay (F-NHL-30), 1st 2010 (OTT), 2nd 2010 (BOS), 3rd 2010 (SJ).

We feel that we have improved our team in the present and the futre during this trading period. We dealt off age-ing forwards in Ray Whitney, Scott Walker and Stephane Yelle while replacing them with much younger forwards in Alex Tanguay, Peter Mueller and Michael Ryder. On defence we lost Aaron Ward and Joe Corvo but gained Brian Lee and Matt Hunwick - two young D with great top-4 potential. We did all of this while only subtracting forward Drayson Bowman (potential top-6) and our 1st round pick 2010 from our prospect pool while we added a whole lot more to it in forwards Logan Couture (potential top-6), Andre Petersson (potential top-6), Brad Staubitz (bottom-6), defenceman Patrick Wiercioch (potential top-4), 1st round pick 2010 (OTT), 2nd round pick 2010 (BOS) and a 3rd round pick 2010 (SJ). All in all we feel this deadline was a HUGE success for the Carolina Hurricanes organization and we now feel as though we are a top-10 team in our conference.
The hype is back in Raleigh!

According to IR4, he's testing free agency. Why would someone trade for his rights?
