I'll go with Sakic. Very close however.

If I didn't vote Yzerman I would be banished from the Red Wings fanbase

Steve Yzerman.

Joe Sakic was the better player, but Yzerman comes to mind as the bigger franchise player and leader. He seemed to get more out of his teammates, while Sakic often did it all himself (no disrespect to Forsberg and Roy). I'll put it this way: Yzerman can lead a horse to water and make it drink, whereas Sakic will lead a horse to water, drink the water himself, and carry the horse on his back for a few more miles until they get to where they're going.

I know its part of the game but if Yzerman never got that knee injury he would have had way more impressive stats, which could have led to anything. The guy played the 02 playoffs on one knee basically and dominated.

Just trying to make my argument for my boy, thats all.

This matchup has been done a million times and will probably be done another million.

Very close, but it's definitely Yzerman for me.

When it's this close, the fact Sakic signed an offer sheet with the Rangers while he was Captain of the Avalanche, makes a difference, IMO.

It doesn't and there really isn't a need to rationalize your homerism on this one. It's pretty much a toss-up.

Yes, I am sure having your franchise player and captain sign for another team is a complete non-issue.

Wow this is tough. These are my 2 fav players all time lol. They were both great leaders imo but the better franchise player I would of rather drafted Steve Yzerman.

Tough call and I'm incredibly biased as a Wings fan.

I think Yzerman scoring 23 points on one leg in the 2002 playoffs makes him a legend, which helps me substantiate my vote at least a little.

Ah, the 2 weeks must have passed since the last Yzerman/Sakic thread.

My vote goes to Joe.

Both great players.

After listening to Holland and how much credit he gave to Yzerman for making the Wings what they were and still are to this day i'll vote for him.

This thread again?

I voted Yzerman last time. I'll vote Sakic this time, for personal balance.
