Want a #1 centre?

Speculation is that Jeff Carter is up for grabs from Philly (although it is Garrioch), in the past a good trade partner of the Edmonton Oilers.

I am not sure how low his stock is, but offering Halak is pretty weak. Anyways, he has a 5 mill cap hit.

Would you do O'Sullivan, Cogliano and Gilbert for Carter and Carle?

Is that a valid proposal? I think so, but the opinion on the Oilers' players is at a pretty low level on this board right now

The cap hit difference is about 8.4 from Philly and dumping about 8.2...i think...feel free to correct me on this.

The media seems to think there's a divide in the dressing room; worse than there was in the Rangers' back in the late 90's-03.

With that said, maybe Holmgren does trade one of his younger players to change the attitude in the room; he's already done so by moving Upshall and Lupul.

I'm an Avs fan but I was wondering why you guys offer up Cogliano in every single trade?

it would be nice to know what the problem is in their dressing room. but on the other hand do we want to take on their problems? we have enough of our own.

Carter would be a nice player to have id take the risk!!!!

we have too many forwards that are similar. he has been the odd man out this year. he is a great player, has alot of potential and his value is still high.

i think everyone would agree that we would rather keep him but we know that one has to offer something of value to get something of value. he is the player that has the most value of the players we can afford to loose.

I'd have to agree on all points. I think Philly is a team that would be willing to do a mid season deal to shake things up, and we could take on some extra salary and get prospects/draft picks, or a problem player in their dressing room out of it. I just wonder who that might be, and if we really want a problem player in our dressing room though? Just please no Briere though. I am not a fan of his game, and we already have enough undersized players as it is.
I'm curious as to what people opinions of Gagne is?

similar to what was mentioned (or to add to it), Cogliano is a top talent and is not getting the opportunity to improve the way he should, simply because of numbers. He is highly sought after, but does not seem to be seen as a main piece that oilers brass wants to keep, so offering him up is our way of "setting him free" and hopefully moving him to a place where his offensive skills are used as opposed to buried in the 3rd line with muckers and goons.

The problem in the dressing room is that Carter banged Scott Hartnell's wife.
No Joke.

Why does it always come down to the wives?

Not sure that we are getting Carter unless Gagner is going the other way. None of those three guys exactly are worth much right now.

As long as Penner, Visnovsky and our 1st arent involved PHI can take anyone from the roster for Carter..

O'Sullivan can turn his game around in Philly like Lupul.. He would be have to be part of the deal.
Gagner + O'Sullivan for Carter +

Gilbert and Cogliano for Carter. Oilers maybe add a 2nd round pick.

Philly is in Cap Purgatory. They would need to add salary. Somehow, I don't think they really need Gilbert.

i think carter is a pipe dream. He was 2nd in the NHL last year with 46 goals and he is a 6'3" 24 year old.

A more plausible deal might be Horcoff for Drury. They have both significantly uderachieved in their contracts and could benefit from a change of scenery. Drury has a $7,050,000 cap hit but it is only for 3 years including this year. Horc's is for 6 years.

Drury might actually be a good centre for Hemsky.

based on what is speculated, MTL offered only Halak for Carter...so it is not like he is up there in value either.

I would say that with Cogliano in the deal, O'sullivan might be enough. And it works witih cap issues as well...Gagner 1 for 1 is not goign to work...you add 4 million (about) in that deal, and the Oielrs only have something like .5 mill.

Gilbert + could do it, but for me, not if the plus is Cogliano. I really don't think these player's stock is so volatile in the GM's eyes as it is in the fan's eyes...on a 5 game win streak, Cogliano's stock could skyrocket on this board...during a 4 game losing streak, he isn't even worth a 4th rounder.

Moving Cogliano is a bad idea. Period. There are many other options that need to go before him.

that is true, but when you're adding a carter for him its a great idea

whoever gets the best player in the deal wins the trade, carter is clearly the best player that is being proposed out in these "make believe proposals" so that would mean the oilers would win

and if you need any proof... Thornton, Heatley, Boyle

But why include Cogliano at all? Why not O'Sullivan?
