And we could offer up Pisani straight up for Carter, it doesn't mean it's fair value. They probably offered Halak, and Holmgren probably laughed so loud coffee came out of his ears.

I'd love Carter for obvious reasons.

How about...

O'Sullivan + Souray + any prospect not named Paajarvi or Eberle + 2nd rounder

for

Carter + salary dump

Add Gagner and Hemsky and remove O'Sullivan and Souray and they might consider it.

while i agree that it would take much more than gagner to land carter, adding hemsky is a little crazy

before i type this, let me state that i DO NOT BELIEVE that philly would be dumb enough to trade carter.... that being said, if i was a philly fan, and philly was going to trade carter to edmonton for a package including gagner.... i would ask for a player like smid to be added to the package and then maybe a draft pick on top of that

to me gagner + smid + 2nd rounder/good prospect would be about fair value

I read it as it might be very shortsighted to include Gagner plus in a package for Carter as Gagner put up better numbers than Carter as a 20 year old. But obviously yes you are right. As of right now Carter is a better player than Gagner. But as we all know age makes a huge difference with hockey players.

Why dont we post it as a poll on the main board and see what happens?

As an Oiler fan I would say that is far too much for a player that Philly is trying to unload for obvious(if the reports are in fact true) lockerroom cancer reasons.

I'd be willing to do Gagner + Grebs or Gilbert for Carter.

The Oilers need to get a whole lot worse before they are going to get better.

Philadelphia Flyers: Jeff Carter. He's the only significant Flyer without a movement clause who could fetch the type of return that might shake the team out of its slump. Management is loath to move him, but if they fail to rebound the pressure to shop Carter will be overwhelming.

With Boucher now out too, I'd have to imagine that any play on Carter would require a decent goalie going back to Philly in return.

I suggest a 3 way deal:

MTL- Horcoff + Cogliano
PHI- Halak + Kostitsyn
EDM- Carter + Laraque

PHI opens up some cap space for a deadline move. Also considering both Giroux and Danny B are natural centers, I think have in house solution to replace Carter's 2nd line center role.

At the deadline, Oil could trade away veterans like Staios and Moreau. In the offseason, I think San Jose will be looking for a replacement for Rob Blake, Souray could be their man. Maybe we could work something around Clowe. I'd look to package O'Sullivan and Gilbert for Horton. Sign Volchenkov as a UFA.

Penner-Carter-Hemsky
Clowe-Gagner-Svensson
Eberle-Brule-Horton
Jacques/Nilsson-Stone-Stortini

Smid-Visnovsky
Grebeshkov-Volchenkov
UFA-Peckham, Chorney, someone from the AHL.

Most Oiler fans are short-sighted and think Cogliano's career is simply his point total from this season.

The kid will be a 30 goal scorer in the NHL.

I agree. He 'll need 2 seasons to achieve it though.

Yeah talk about dim. Just saying Gagner has not reached is full potential yet. Is that so hard to figure out. Hate the player all you want what i am saying is very true. I would not trade Gagner and I think the Oilers are on the same wave length. Carter is a great player congrats on your great hockey wisdom to figure that out. But try figuring out that Gagner is in the NHL for a reason and we have not seen his full potential.

BTW Carter has 27 points and Gagner has 21. Yeah lets trade Gagner and our best shut down Dmen and a pick for him.

To be honest I'm not sure I'd want Carter either, and I have to admit all the off-ice crap that is swirling around about him (along with other Flyers players) and the party mentality isn't helping at all. As a fan I want someone focused and committed on hockey and winning, which will show with their play.

Isn't there one skilled, hard working NHL'er who puts in an honest effort every night anymore? Because it sure doesn't look like it.

I would take Carter just not for Gagner. I think all this talk and rumor's about Carter are more to do with how Philly is playing rather the other way around. If he is available we need to go after him pronto. Just don't go and make some stupid deal that is going to hurt down the road.

I am a Gagner fan and i see major upside with him. He may not ever score 46 goals but he could put up more points then Carter. Again just speculation. It would shore up the C position big time with some cap friendly wingers showing up next year.

Since when is Jeff Carter a number 1 center?

Just because he has a big contract doesn't automatically make him a #1 centre..just ask Horcoff.

If Carter is traded it will be for a lot less than most of you are proposing.
