Smyth returned to his regular first-line role with C Anze Kopitar and RW Justin Williams — at least at the start of the game — and played 20 minutes, 17 seconds, recording two shots on goal and a minus-1 rating.
—RW Wayne Simmonds returned to the lineup after missing four games with a knee injury. Simmonds had an arthroscopic procedure, on Dec. 14, to repair his meniscus, but was out less than two weeks. Simmonds played 14 minutes, 27 seconds, and got promoted to the first line after RW Justin Williams left the game in the first period.
—RW Justin Williams suffered a broken right leg early in the first period, on his second shift of the game. Williams went to play the puck behind the net and got tangled with center Anze Kopitar and Phoenix defenseman Ed Jovanovski. Williams could not get up from the ice and had to be taken away on a stretcher.
—RW Brandon Segal returned to the lineup after missing nine games with a knee sprain.
—RW Justin Williams suffered a broken leg in the first period. No timetable for his return has been set.
—D Randy Jones missed a second consecutive game with a sore neck and headaches and is considered day to day.
