Now I would hate to play Toronto. Johnson can wheel and deal with the likes of Ottawa and Boston but Toronto would target that hand and make him pay very early.

Hopefully it's not too bad, and he can play thru it.

Without Johnsson, the Flyers blueline suddenly looks really vulnerable.
However, the loss is really in blueline offense - it's a huge loss, but not a fatal one. It's overcomeable. It hurts that much more because Johnsson was playing so well, though.

God I hope this doesnt mean Sami Kapanen plays as a defenseman again. What happened to this team? Defense was our deepest position at the start of the year. Its down to AHL defensemen and its not even round two.

I noticed a bit earlier you posted in the general board on a thread listing your favorite players on each team, but left off the Flyers, and you could not bring yourself to wish us luck in the next round. Apparently you hate this teams guts. So why are you still trolling here?

As per Rich Hoffman and Jim Jackson on Daily News Live, Kapanen will be practicing on defense the rest of this week.

From listening to the two of them it sounds like Johnsson should be able to play, and if he isn't ready by game one ... he should certainly be ready by game three.

Hope so. Might make the guys pull together even stronger but after the Desjardins injury I think that is tough in itself. Hopefully he'll be ok for Game 1 and if he's not, then we don't miss him too much.

It was obvious actually. We were wong in that once he got hit he didn't return. He went right to the bench and they started working on his hand on the bench.

Other teams obviously would know exactly what happened regardless.

Chara smashing Leetch into a pulp, Domi leveling Chara to avenge Leetch, there are many possibilities. Or just a huge brawl that results in the suspension of a lot of players from each team. That would make it easier.

Lets not start with hoping for injuries. Well...lets just hope they get worn down (a lot) in their game sevens. 5 OT (or more) for both...that would be weird.

I'm not trolling. I'm offering an opinion. I still think the Flyers will win their next round, at least - there's no team in the east, with or without Johnsson, I would pick over them. Esche proved me wrong this postseason.

And, check that list - I remember listing Simon Gagné as my favorite Flyer.
Edit: oops, lol, you're right, I did leave off Philly. I put Gagné under Pheonix. Sorry about that.

This is an exerpt from TSNs report on the Johnsson injury:

If Johnsson doesn't play, Hitchcock said he'll move Sami Kapanen from forward to play defence. Kapanen played defence twice during the regular season, and welcomes the switch.
``It's a totally different game,'' Kapanen said. ``In order to play defence in the playoffs, you have to go out and compete and make those simple plays, stay out of the trouble.''
Hitchcock said Kapanen has bugged the coaches about playing defence since getting a taste of it earlier in the season.
``Sami loves it back there,'' Hitchcock said. ``He feels he creates more on the rush. He feels he's more of an impact on the offence from back there.''

if Sami plays D, Fridge will see some time with the Flyers. It could be welcomed if we face the Leafs next Friday.

But let's hope KJ will play...

God, I hope it's Somik and not Fridge. Screw the physical approach, it's not what wins games.

Why woulnd't he be? Just because Pang drops a nut over a hit doesn't mean it affected Primeau, he's fine.

Agreed, Somik is a better defensive player while Fridge is erratic. The playoffs are not his cup of tea unless he can mold himself into a role much like Jarkko Ruutu has for Vancouver.

That part of the glove is the most heavily padded plus they will most likely make him wear some sort of protective cast. The major concern is his effectiveness. Saying that his slapshot will be weak is a huge understatement. His passes and wristers will also have significantly less zip on them. Then again, everything depends on Kimmie's pain tolerance. This series, and everyone after this one, will tell us a lot about Kimmie's desire and ultimately what kind of player he really is.
