I think he means if he has a successful tournament, how will it affect the rest of his season at BC. Same could be said for Schroeder, who is having a sub-par season at Minnesota, if he has a good tournament maybe it will translate to his college game.

In 05-06 (his Freshman year) Gerbe came back to BC a man on fire and really picked his game up after the WJC. If I recall correctly he was bumped up into the top-6 after previously being used primarily as an energy player. But that's just one instance and it's also a case where the player really picked it up after adjusting to the higher competition of the WJC - a lot is up to the player.

Shame for Russia. They lost two of their best offensive forwards (Loktionov and Grachev), and one of their better d-men (Voinov).
If Russia didn't want to try and steal every player they could steal, they'd of had all 3 released with no issues. They brought it upon themselves with ****** behavior.

The good news about this is that the big question mark about Kreider was his lack of experience against so-called quality competition. He seems to be pushing that criticism aside. He hasn't looked overwhelmed or intimidated by the step-up in play.

Luke Walker made it too, he played for the Rangers' team in Traverse City, and is a FA afaik. Hopefully if he plays well the Rangers will have a leg up in signing him.

Any announcements on any of the other players? Horak I'm assuming made the cut for the Czech Republic? Grachev we know for sure will not be released?

So what are USA's realistic chances to win it all this year?
I haven't really been keeping up with the U20 teams.

I don't think they win gold, but I would be surprised if they were not in the bronze medal game.

Canada is a heavy favorite, especially with the tourney being held in Canada.

Sweden is probably #2 at the moment. Consensus?

Russia is missing a lot of key eligible players so I'd imagine they'll fall back to the pack little bit. The U.S. has got to be considered in contention for a medal at least, even though 2/3 of their top line from last year will not be returning.

I cannot wait to finally get some first hand looks at Kreider and Stepan. This is going to be awesome.

This is from earlier this month when Kreider was selected to the evaluation camp.Kreider's hometown paper.

Quote:
“They take into account how you play during the fall, they send people to watch the kids under the microscope,” said Kreider, who has been happy with his performance at Boston College thus far. “So far, so good. It’s an adjustment period, but all you can really do is work hard and hopefully they’ll select you.”
Quote:
When asked what the No. 1 improvement in his game has been, he was quick to answer.

“Definitely timing. It’s just a whole different level, and you have to figure out when to go and when not to go,” said Kreider. “The defensemen are a lot better, so you have to mix it up. Stuff that worked at prep school doesn’t work here.”

I just noticed Ryan Bourque, and Chris Kreider are from the same home-town... sort of interesting..

Also, the list isn't coming up correctly on my computer, but is it true that Hall and Seguin aren't on the roster?

Yes Hall made the team. Seguin was one of the 1st 5 that were cut.

Kreider and Bourque

Quote:
“[When I heard the pick of Bourque], my family and I were all smiles, we were laughing, and we thought it was real ironic and really neat, too,” Kreider said, in a June 30 press conference at the camp. “I haven’t seen the kid in seven years and now I’m roommates with him at a professional conditioning camp.

“It’s a pretty small world, and it’s pretty cool being picked by the same team,” Kreider added.

Kreider,Stepan and Bourque were together at the Rangers prospects camp in July and then again in Lake Placid for the US WJC camp in August. All of the guys hung out in Stepan's room at Lake Placid. That's where they kept the booze and porn.

Nah. My money's on Klingberg, the Thrashers' 2009 2nd round pick.
However, with these three Rangers prospects playing I'll watch the USA games with more interest than the Sweden games!

Is the U.S. team expected to bring any kind of metal home in this tournament. I'm too lazy to go research all the rosters

The MVP is definitely going to be Filatov. There is no reason he should even be playing in it but he will certainly be a man among boys.

Back in the summer at Lake Placid, one of the best U.S. lines was Jordan Schroeder centering Kyle Palmieri and Ryan Bourque, but Blais said he didn't see enough from that group to keep them together for the tournament.

"I think we're going to have to experiment a little bit," Blais told me. "It really didn't click last night for whatever reason, didn't seem to have the kick that we needed. … Didn't have a whole lot of chemistry. We'll probably try something different."

But those three players, as well as Kristo, Chris Kreider and Derek Stepan should fill the top two lines.

3 of the top 6 forwards.
