Waaaaay back in the high and far-off times, when the team was young, Greensboro was the place to be on a hockey night, and Poor Steve Halko was the future captain, we were without a backup goaltender.
And so, a young Harvard graduate was called up from the minors to camp the bench at the Coliseum should Trevor Kidd wind up getting hurt--whereupon, this young Harvard Graduate who had been called up from the minors to camp the bench at the Coliseum would have been summarily transmogrified by the Hurricanes' Equipment Staff of Awesomeness into a shooter tutor...err, I mean, take the crease.
That young man was Tripp Tracy, and in honour of his brave sacrifice he was awarded with the number 40 and the distinction of having dressed for exactly ONE game in the NHL.
(It's all true. Especially the shooter-tutor part.)
