Edmonton-Pittsburgh

This one is one thats been around a long time and I threw this out there on 2 message boards about a year and a half ago as an oiler fan and got absolutely blasted(Hemsky was on about an 25 goal, 85 point pace at that point, staal was on pace for 15 and 45) by both oiler fans, flyer fans and even some pittsburgh fans as making a bad deal from edmontons perspective. I'll bring it up again since I saw it revisited from a pens fan and it sort of jogged my memory.

To Edmonton:
Staal

To Pittsburgh:
Hemsky

Isn't Hemsky out for the whole year?

Regardless I think Pittsburgh would have to add to this. Hemsky is a first line player with a great contract.

4yrs/ 4million cap hit.

Pittsburgh doesn't trade Staal/Stall/ Stahl for a winger this season. Most likely another rental for the top 6 at the deadline, which has been Shero's MO thus far.

Staal's actually been playing the best hockey of his career in recent weeks.

Yes, please. I believe Hemsky is a very underrated player, and, playing with a great center such as Malkin or Sid, he'd hit 100 points. Not only that, Hemsky seems to have a knack for scoring amazing clutch goals.

You do realize he's out for the season?

I dont know about pens fans, but I would do this deal as an Oilers fan. Staal is a great two-way foward and a great Pker.He is also is a great faceoff man. He fits all of the Oilers needs. And hemsky would be a fantastic winger to Malkin

Yes. Even so, I'd do it.

I think Jordan Staal is tremendously overrated.

I can't say I agree with this logic.

Having Craig Adams center your third line, while your newly acquired winger watches from the press box, as you attempt to defend the cup.

Agree to disagree.

I don't think I am alone as an Oiler fan who wouldn't do this deal.

Or Talbot.

Either way the idea of trading Staal for a player who's out for the year is ridiculous.

Jordan Staal not that good. He is over rated because he had a good rookie year. He often looks slow and lazy, and has severe problems hitting the net with his shot.

Is he a good 3rd line center? Yes, without question. However, I would give him up in a heartbeat to have Hemsky for almost the exact same price next season.

Thankfully, you're not the GM of the Penguins.

Staal + rental winger at deadline > Hemsky minus Staal (even if Hemsky was healthy)

I'd rather keep Staal and add rentals until our prospects are ready to contribute. Staal on the team is part of a proven back to back Stanley Cup Final formula who hasn't hit his prime yet. We didn't trade Staal last year when we were toiling at the bottom of the standings. We won't trade him now when we have the most points in the league by Christmas. I'm glad Shero is in charge and not some of our fans.

Oilers wouldn't trade Hemsky for Staal. Although Staal would be a good fit for the Oilers, it wouldn't be at the price of Hemsky.

Oilers have been searching for a center for Hemsky for years.

Now it looks like Gagner my be able to be that guy and they decide to trade Hemsky? Makes no sense.

Gagner is not the center for Hemsky, they have horrible chemistry. Hemsky is a guy who loves to skate with the puck and needs teammates that can keep up with him (which is why Horcoff had some good seasons with Hemsky) and Gagner is a slow player, and prefers to use the boards while Hemsky is more of a puck possession guy.

Gagner works a lot better with Penner than Hemsky. As for this trade, I really like Staal but the Pens would need to add something else for me to accept that trade.

I'd rather keep Staal. Hemsky is way better offensively right now but he's another playmaker..

So, you don't like winning? You prefer to throw away chances of repeating because you think it'll be swell to see Hemsky on the Pens next year? That seems tremendously silly.

Beyond that, I wouldn't want to deal Staal for Hemsky even if its in the off-season. He has had too many injury troubles and isn't a natural goal scorer. Hell, Staal will likely score more goals than him in most seasons going forward. From the third line with little PP time.

Hemsky is a very good player when on form, sure, but we have more than enough playmaking abilities on the Pens.

You realize Pens are 30th league wide in the PP? and this is with everyone you mentioned but minus Hemsky. Hemsky is good, but he aint THAT good.

you obviously havent seen hemsky on the pp. he absolutely controls it, and with two d-men that can shoot the puck, and 2 star forwards who can shoot and pass very well, it would be ****in dynamite. in edmonton hemsky was banking pucks of horcoff and other skill-less guys like him. imagine what he could do with two stars along side him. also, the oilers pp has gone to **** since he got hurt. they now lose momentum on the pp.
