How much would Doughty's next contract be?

Drew has been phenomenal lately and could be playing in the Olympics and could even possibly be a runner-up for Norris. With his contract expiring at the end of 2011-2012, how much do you think he would get offered? 4-5 million? Discuss.

P.S: Not sure if there was thread about this. So be nice.

8 years, 41.6m for a cap hit of 5.2. That's not necessarily what I want but I just see that happening.

I say Dean convinces him to take a hometown discount around $4 million plus or minus $500k for a duration of around 6 years.

Let's put some perspective on this. Anze Kopitar's contract was for 7 years at $6.8 million. Drew Doughty's contract will be right around there, if not more. He's just as valuable to the organization (maybe even more so) than Kopitar.

We need to get him locked up long term, if he agrees. I say 15yr 82.5 mil. 5.5 on the cap hit. Hell he'd only be 35 or 36 when the deal would expire.

I don't want to even think of what kind of contract he'll get when he's 25 or 26 years old. I think Dean will throw him a 10-15 year deal.

Now that's just dumb. Drew could never live for 1500 years.

So it's 170 years at 1500 million dollars.

... I think Doughty is going to be in that range, anywhere from $6.5 to 7.5 million per year, for at least 6 years.

Depends if DL imposes the second contract on him before the "big" one. Much like what he did with Johnson.

Only ace in the hole is that Doughty loves it here, and he may pull a Brown and do a home town discount type of thing.

It's not necessarily impossible but it sure is a stretch. The thing I love about the way Lombardi manages the team is that he doesn't look for quick fixes and tries to prevent the type of predicament Chicago finds itself in now. For that reason, I just don't see it happening. The team most apt to sign Kovalchuk is the team he's currently on.

There is no way Doughty goes into his next contract making $6+ million. I guarantee it. He will be making in the $5 million range or less.

The reason why he did that type of contract for Johnson was because he was still unproven. I'm pretty sure Doughty has left no doubts within the organization that he can and will be THE franchise D-Man

As I've posted in other threads, he should get a deal similiar to Duncan Keith's. 12-15 yrs at a cap hit of $5.5-6M

Johnsons injury had more to do with it. Although I am sure his cap hit is also a lot lower because of the fact one of his seasons was eaten up in 5 games which I am sure figured into their numbers.

i see him getting equal or more to kopitar's contract. there's no reason to think he's not a proven commodity. Dean might even take the chance to go with a longer contract with him. I think DL likes him that much.

DL overpaid for Kopitar. He can't afford the same mistake AND plan on keeping this young team together.

Yes, I assumed when I said "unproven" you were going to account for his injury and yes, the prior season . . . we're on the same page

Lifetime contract give him what he asks for and don't dick him around he seems like a reasonable kid. Drew"the Phenom"Doughty players like him are rare, he is the corner stone, and he's going to lead us to the so called promise land
