Where is Cormier's suspension?

Anyone heard any reports?

There is a lot of opinions here at hf but a unusual amount of fans from both sides thought he would get suspended for that elbow. It was pretty dirty.

It would be very lets call it odd if he didn't even get one game.

I have been wondering this as well. I don't think he is going to get suspended because nothing has been mentioned about it and the tournament is starting today.

We (sweden) decided to not report it to IIHF, and it seems like noone else did either.

The IIHF have de facto been notified of the situation, and its up to them if they wanted to take action or not.

They did mention on TSN that the IIHF committee wouldn't be meeting until today, so we shouldn't have expected a suspension until today if he was going to get one.

I personally think he should get one, 1-2 games, and I would be upset by the IIHF if he didn't, that was totally uncalled for and malicious.

Furthermore, I've been very upset with the way he has represented Canada. Tough is one thing, dirty is another.

The fact that no one was injured says against any suspension. Sadly that seems to be current IIHF policy in officiating, suspensions or rather game misconducts are only handed for fighting and injuries, even if the injury occured from a clean hit.

Broken nose is somewhat of a injury at least.

The fact is he tried the same play the following night should be taken into account.

A broken nose in hockey is like "2nd period".

I don't care. I love Cormier's game. I'm so stoked to see what he can do for my Devils.

Suspended for something he did in a non-competition ("friendly") game? Far fetched, imho.

It was "dirty" but team Sweden should've stepped up to the plate right after the "incident" and did something about it. They didn't, so let's move on... period.

I agree that it wasn't that dirty.

But you basically get dipped in oil and rolled in feathers if you even mention that the reffing is extremely biased in international hockey. It is IMHO.

Here we got a case were the linesmen (Canadian BTW) clearly sees what happends when the Canadian captain breaks the nose of a swedish D two zones behind the play -- and nothing is called.

Then the issue goes to the IIHF -- and it seems like no suspension will be given out. While it clearly was a suspendable offense.

And it have been like this for years now.

It's a suspendable offence.... if it would have been done during the tournament.

And I fully agree with this. BUT remember that it goes both ways. I think every team's officials are in some way out there for their own. I don't trust any of them enough to referee their own country's games.

As for this play, I have a big issue with some of the other teams in the tournament pleading complete innocence. Teams like Sweden get away with plenty behind the whistle and cannot be shocked when that comes back on them...

...except in this instance. This is blatant goonery that should have been punished. I agree that tough is one thing and this is something else.

At this point, Cormier's not the kind of captain I want.

Well, IIHF should have adressed the issue, and not us if anything. Not worth to focus on an incident before the tournament has even started.

Wrong. Opinion was divided, but there was a large contingent who felt this deserved no further treatment, myself included. It was a two minute elbow, and it deserved the IIHF mandated 2 and 10 for a head shot and nothing more. That's not to say it wasn't dirty, but there was nothing particularly vicious about it, it was an agitation move executed at low speed that posed little to no risk of severe injury. The guy got hit in the nose and it hurt. That sucks for him, but he was never at risk of anything more dangerous than that: not at that speed, not with that kind of contact.

Meh. Messier, Stevens, Howe, and Trottier say hi. They were all a hell of a lot meaner and a hell of a lot dirtier than Cormier.
