Kessel would dominate playing with Backstrom

Even with the injury history of Semin, I still take him over PK every time... he is just Kessel on roids... everything Kessel does, Semin does better for the most part.

Phil is a legit threat for 40 goals as well, what seperates them in my opinion is the play making and Semin will rack up a lot more assists

Where I see Phil being a 40 goals and 25-30 assists... I see Semin as 40 goals 40-45 assists

So instead of posting an argument why Kessel is better than Semin, you decide to repost this argument?

So Backstrom leeches of Ovechkin, who in turn is being leeched by Semin?

Semin is unquestionably the better offensive player right now. Both are plagued by a somewhat lack of consistency (Kessel is, please don't post back with the no one to play with argument, he was inconsistent with Boston). Semin has the advantage of being more mature and further down the development path, but his shot and stickhandling skills are better than Kessel's. Kessel is the better skater though.

Semin right now is undisputedly the better player. His offensive stats are better this year, and he has had two previous seasons of being a PPG (73 pts in 77 and 79 pts in 62 games). He is above a PPG pace this year, despite again suffering from stretches of inconsistency. He really is more talented than the stats say.

For the future, the only way Kessel becomes better than Semin is if he can sort out the issue of inconsistency, and Semin does not. Even then, production is likely to be even.

Semin, for sure.

Kessel and Semin both have one of the best wrist shots in the league. Semin's wrister is lethal even from the blue line.

They both got great releases and wrist shots but I think that Semin's is the best in the league at this moment. His wrist shot is so quick, accurate and powerful you just can't go against it. Semin's vision and passing is also better then Kessels.

I think Semin has a slight edge over Kessel right now. Kessel has really infused the Leafs with some life. This poll should be closer.

I also think Kessel has more room for improvement over Semin.

Right now, Semin and maybe in a few years Kessel. I think this poll should be closer though.

It's funny because I look at his TSN stat page and I don't think he's scored 40 in his entire life, let alone the NHL.

you make it sound as if the nhl is this 1 year program he joined, or they had stats of semin in his teens. ovechkin didn't score 40 in russia before he came over so i would be amazed if semin did.

Semin easily. Kessel is three years younger though, and plays in a losing, far less talented environment.

Semin plays with arguably the most dangerous offensive threats in the league, on offense and defense(Ovechkin, Green) and Backstrom who is one of the most skilled play makers in the NHL. I'd like to see how Kessel would do there and how Semin would do here in Toronto.

Semin. Even being lazy he has as much skill as Kessel, and he's a better playmaker.

In fairness to you, hf posters don't take into consideration the age of the players or their potential when voting on these kind of polls. Heck I made a poll last spring between Backstrom, Toews, Kane and E.Johnson and Backstrom finished last by a fair margin. Less than a year later I'm sitting here looking on the front page and I see a poll between Backstrom and Kane with Backstrom leading 50 votes to 10. That's just how it goes.

Good point, a lot of times its flavor of the month...

I mean, there was a point I am pretty sure Pevery could give AO or Sid a run for their money in a poll...lol

Ya my mistake sorry i always thought semin had hit 40.

Let me re say it... Semin is pretty much a guarantee to hit 35+, and 40 if he stays healthy.

To be fair, he arguably had 40 in 06-07, its just that 2 of them were attributed to Clark and they were iffy (and they came in consecutive games too, it was really weird)
