Man, NHL player agent and Twitter addict Alan Walsh is really pimping client Jaroslav Halak hard this year. Were I another of his clients, I'd be jealous. That kid must really want a trade bad.

from rotoworld.com:

The Columbus Blue Jackets and the Washington Capitals are reportedly on the verge of making a potentially blockbuster trade.

Although the players involved are not yet known, the Capitals will have Karl Alzner spend Monday's game in the press box. Alzner's omission from Monday's game has fueled speculation that he's involved in the deal, although it would take a fair amount for the Capitals to part with him. Nikita Filatov may also be involved in the deal. Filatov left the Blue Jackets to play the remainder of the season in the KHL because he felt Blue Jackets coach Ken Hitchcock never gave him a chance. Stay tuned.

I will be seriously bummed if we trade KA27. The team is 9-1 with him in the lineup and a pedestrian 15-13 without. He's already logging 20 minutes a night playing on the wrong side of the ice paired with John Freakin' Erskine and we are rolling over the best teams in the league.

where's that "Jump to Conclusions" game board pic from Office Space when you need it?

How did "interest in Morrisonn and Jurcina" turn into "potential blockbuster"...seriously?

i'm sure this is an Eklund-esque bit of trade rumor, but if they do trade Alzner i will be super choked.

Filatov doesn't add anything that the Caps don't already have.

It's like they are simply tossing darts. A young valuable player is out tonight for no clear reason? Must be trade bait!

That said, would it have killed them to dress the guy tonight, and sit a plug instead? Cripes.

Portzline does a bang up job of staying grounded despite all the wild rumors:

http://blog.dispatch.com/cbj/2009/12...ith_caps.shtml

(Excerpt)

...Capitals are believed to be scratching D Karl Alzner tonight when they host Carolina, but it seems highly unlikely the Caps would part with Alzner unless it's a blockbuster trade. He's one of the top prospects in all of hockey.

It would likely take Blue Jackets' top prospect Nikita Filatov (and a pick) or two-plus veterans (and maybe a pick) to get that deal done.

The Blue Jackets are willing to part with a forward to get a defenseman, however. Would that be Jason Chimera? Or Raffi Torres? They would appear to be leading candidates, and the likely return would be Milan Jurcina or Shaone Morrisonn.

Logic would tell you they may instead be showcasing Morrisonn or Jurcina. However, logic doesn't really garner the website hits. Without Alzner in the line-up those two are going to get more time at ES & on the PK than they would otherwise.

do Morrisonn or Jurcina need to be showcased? They have pretty good resumes at this point.

He has played for that organization in the past...

With film and whatnot you'd think players wouldn't need to be showcased anymore. That team has had scouts at recent games, though.

I would use the word "established" rather than "good".

He's just now realizing this? It's been known for some time (at least I've known about it, figured he would of all people)

He didn't title it breaking news. It's been known that it was probably coming, but it's still worth marking the date, with a few days to go. Halving the amount of press coverage the team gets is not a good thing.

My friend is in town visiting, and I'm supposed to show him Boston this week. I don't even really know what that means, other than that I'm going to have to miss tonight's game (and probably the San Jose game too).

God dammit.

you really don't like him do you? I honestly think he's a lot better than Lacanfora was. Maybe no Rachel Alexander, but he's good enough for me. It's not like the beat writer does anything but expound what we already know to the masses with a little extra nugget of joy. If I want real news, I go to Mike Vogel.

I feel as the team has gotten better, Tarik's rush to get stuff in there has hurt his writing.

He also does way less than he used to. Partially due to the Post cutting staff, but partially to who know why.

We used to get a chat each week, now, there hasn't been more than one or two in a year.

Heck, Applebaum and a few others do much of his legwork (i.e. stealing links in the morning)

i wanted the 1000 post on the other thread

do u think that nylander is gone affected the semin singing ? i mean from a time perspective, would they sign him right now with nylander in the lineup ?

i like the 1-year for semin that gives mcphee more flexibility with the cap space he has right now.
