Yeah, but Ovie's already having the best year of his career in terms of pace. Why fix what ain't really broken in that respect?
If it's Laich, though, maybe it's to get him to reemerge? This is just strange.
I still think, when it comes down to it, putting the team on your shoulders and carrying the mail is something Ovechkin is more than willing to do, and putting the C on his chest would only further that faith.
the bigger part is getting him to buy into the system a bit more, and be the rah rah in more than just his "excitement".
The only part that could be better is more of a playoff history from Chimera, but the immediate salary cap angle to this is sweet. The Capitals are carving out a good chunk of deadline room to maneuver. That killed them compared to the Penguins last season. This trade is about sending some good soldiers (who were wholly expendable) for cap space.
There's got to be something planned already. You don't trade your captain for cap space unless you know what you're going to do with it.
Assuming everything was otherwise hunky-dory behind the scenes, that is.
The Caps have noone to analyse caps news. Tell us what it means or what he thinks it means based on his if not inside knowledge, his at the door knowledge that we dont have. People will speak to him off the record where they dont with us. Unless Battleship is really McPhee or Fishman
Nobody's not George McPhee as much as me. I like the trade. Chimera's a better player making less money than Clark and jurcina was the eighth D.
I expect Ovechkin to be named Captain. I had wondered what would happen in the playoffs. I love Clark, but seriously, do you want anyone other than Ovechkin being handed the Cup?
yeah a conditioning stint that saves money and cap.
I don't think it saves anything really.
Sk8 can correct me if I'm wrong, but when a goalie is on emergency recall, the salary doesn't count against the cap (unless it's more perhaps)...so with him going down, since he makes the same as Neuvirth (who's salary would now be going on the books officially)...there are not really any savings in this move. I don't think they can call it a conditioning stint since he was never on IR officially or some BS.
GMGM is an idiot. He should have traded Varly and Carlson for Pronger while he had the chance. Varly can't beat out a rebound machine so he's sent to Hershey and the Swiss made Carlson look like Jurcina.
