Rooting for the USA is a given, unless you're just a _ _ _ _.

Having the US win gold and watching the Canadian hockey establishment implode in front of the international hockey community, and on their own stage in Vancouver ...priceless!

Well, I am definitely rooting against Canada. Failure to medal would be awesome.

The lines at practice in LA:

Ovechkin - Backstrom - Semin
Fleischmann - Morrison - Bradley
Chimera - Laich - Knuble
Laing - Steckel - Fehr/Gordon

Thoughts?

Bradley up to the 2nd line. I like that.

The way Bradley has been playing, he deserves it.

Boudreau just needs to slot Chimera into Clark's old slot and go with that IMO. Before the deal those lines were working just fine so why change more than needs to be changed at the moment?

They're testing out Laich at the third line center position, to see if they have to get one at the trade deadline.

Yes I know and the 'old' 3rd line was Clark-Laich-Fehr so IMO the 'new' 3rd line should be Chimera-Laich-Fehr. Leave the other 3 lines alone...

as far as rooting for someoen other than the US in the olympics. I do not judge my patriotism on a series of games, despite its history. I also do not think I am being unpatriotic by rooting for another team. Cause in the end, I am rooting for another TEAM, not the country. If that makes sense.

Looks to me like Eric Fehr is going to get scratched in LA. He had his spurt of 4 goals in three games and added 3 assists in the next two games, but has fallen quiet since. 2 goals in his last ten and 1 in his last 9.

Idiot gm. Its not like this wasn't obvious that this was coming. Management needs to scratch themselves.

The best part of the line-up is separating bmo and knubes. But once again instead of three high scoring lines we get one and crap.
Its sob, pp, or bust! I need a drink.

He has to be put in conditions for him to suceed. He can get some long shots on for potential rebound goals with anyone.
He can get some garbage goals by going to net with anyone. But that's all he can do with below average centers.

A center that can hold the puck, draw defenders, and dish it puts gives fehr the nhl time and space he needs to get frequent shots from the slot.
Those over the shoulder lasers from the dot aren't going to happen with laich, stecks, and gordon.

Fehr was all over the puck last night in the first period when he was getting a regular shift. As the game went on he seemed to get less and less time.

I've been saying this forever, but he needs to be put in a position to succeed, and so far bruce has been very reluctant to do that, and when he has done it he hasn't let it last longer than a couple of periods.

I will say this. his point spurt was playing with Perreault and not with top line guys.
If we are saying that he needs to skate with Ovechkin to succede, I dont think that is going to happen.

Not Ovechkin, but a guy like perrault who can create space and distribute is exactly what fehr needs. Laich isn't the guy to do that. I don't think he has the vision to be a playmaking center. Checking center, sure, but i think he's suited to play in the knuble mold but numbers work against him a little bit.

In my rant about "even strength scoring" dropping once mp was dropped fehr is the number 1 reason imho.
You take away fehr's strengths and make him a slower brads with laichs, gordons, and stecks of the world.

I just got to believe that they see the difference as well but there's some macro reason why we're stuck with this roster.

On San Jose's "first good [scoring chance], [Eric] Fehr was out to lunch on it," Boudreau added. "On those kind of things, it's the gaps between our forwards and their defense or our forwards and their forwards. When the [gaps are] good, we're good and we allow 18 to 25 shots. When they're not good, they get over 30 shots."

Fehr, it seems, has found his way into Boudreau's doghouse. The big winger has been dropped to the fourth line with grinders Quintin Laing, David Steckel and Boyd Gordon. One of those four forwards could find themselves as a healthy scratch tomorrow.
It should be Gordon but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Fehr. Fehr may be prime trade bait at the deadline if he's not on a scoring-line.

Just from the return trips that Fehr gets to the dog house from Boudreau, I would say there is something recurring about Fehr that Bruce doesnt like. He has scratched him for not practicing hard in the past. I suppose Fehr can be lazy or the Bruce perceives him as lazy.

That may be all well and true but its still up to alzner to read and react on that play. And he was wrong.

On tv its tough to see the gaps on the trailing play. Coaches end tape you can see it. Perhaps those "good" defensive plays from fehr a few games ago were still him making poor decisions that he made up for ala eminger.

I'll say this. He may be trade bait, but its not smart given the expiring contracts of our other rw'rs next season. Also given how much I'd like to see the 3 scoring lines with a center added.
If we don't get a center, the fehr's in no man's land with the team's line-up not being able to play to his strengths.

Laich is not at center come playoffs. I would be shocked if he was. He will be back on the wing with an acquired veteran at center. Anyone happen to notice that Bourque is tearing it up at Hershey?

He better watch it or he is going to rapidly get the tweener reputation.

I still can't believe no terrible team can't find a roster spot for him to give him a look.

I don't think you can call him a tweener he's improved every season and he's got 19 points in 30 games. Boudreau's right to call his players out if they deserve it, but let's not get carried away.

I'll happily take a big 40-50 point winger at under $1 million.

And let's not forget that he's under 150 NHL GP in his career. He's still pretty raw.
