2006 Olympic Roster

Goaltenders -

#Roberto Luongo (Montréal, QC/Florida Panthers)
*#Martin Brodeur (Montréal, QC/New Jersey Devils)
Marty Turco (Sault Ste. Marie, ON/Dallas Stars)

Defenceman -

*Rob Blake (Simcoe, ON/Colorado Avalanche)
*#Scott Niedermayer (Cranbrook, BC/Anaheim Mighty Ducks) - withdrawn due to injury
*#Adam Foote (Whitby, ON/Columbus Blue Jackets)
*#Ed Jovanovski (Windsor, ON/Vancouver Canucks) - withdrawn due to injury
*Chris Pronger (Dryden, ON/Edmonton Oilers)
#Wade Redden (Lloydminster, SK/Ottawa Senators)
#Robyn Regehr (Rosthern, SK/Calgary Flames)
Bryan McCabe (Calgary, AB/Toronto Maple Leafs)
#Jay Bouwmeester (Edmonton, AB/Florida Panthers)

Forwards -

Todd Bertuzzi (Sudbury, ON/Vancouver Canucks)
#Shane Doan (Halkirk, AB/Phoenix Coyotes)
*#Simon Gagne (Ste-Foy, QC/Philadelphia Flyers)
#Kris Draper (Toronto, ON/Detroit Red Wings)
#Dany Heatley (Calgary, AB/Ottawa Senators)
*#Jarome Iginla (St. Albert, AB/Calgary Flames)
#Vincent Lecavalier (îÎe Bizard, QC/Tampa Bay Lightning)
Rick Nash (Brampton, ON/Columbus Blue Jackets)
#Brad Richards (Murray Harbour, PEI/Tampa Bay Lightning)
*#Joe Sakic (Burnaby, BC/Colorado Avalanche) (team captain)
*#Ryan Smyth (Banff, AB/Edmonton Oilers)
#Martin St. Louis (Laval, QC/Tampa Bay Lightning)
#Joe Thornton (St. Thomas, ON/San Jose Sharks)

This is 2006, so keep in mind how much turnover there will be for the next games. Also, yes, it seems crazy to say that Getzlaf will regress, but will Lecavalier be on the 2010 team? What I'm getting at is, noone is a lock.

For a second there I thought after reading the first few names that you had Blake and Foote et all playing in 2014 until I realized what was going on

Not good enough defensively yet, and IMO will never improve the defensive side to his game...

That's absurd. He's improved from last season to this season. He's only 24 years old. His best days are ahead of him.

absolutely kills me to see Sidney Crosbys name with a 26 by his name for his age in 2014!!!! Unbelievable what this guy has done and at what age. Makes we want to puke!

Stamkos and Tavares should be locks for centers behind Crosby.

Stamkos is already breaking out in his second season. 4 years from now, he'll probably be putting up 100 points. And Tavares is supposed to be even better than him.

In an Olympic scenario, I wouldnt be surprised to see Stamkos on Tavares' wing. Tavares and Stamkos had chemistry at the 08 WJC, and on big ice Stamkos' speed on the wing could make up for Tavares,

From the 2010 team I could see these guys back:
Heatley
Crosby
Richards
Toews
Nash
Getzlaf
Perry
Staal
Seabrook
Weber
Doughty
Kieth

Mike Green will bring the noise on the big ice. Barring catastrophic injury he basically has to be there.

I'm hoping Luke Schenn will be a lot better by then and will at least be considered.

Crazy. 26 years is beginning of prime, and prime goes up until 32 years of age.

I think Canada will have a better team in 2014 than they will this year, at least on paper.

Tavares- Crosby- Nash
Hall- Stamkos- Heatley
E. Staal- Getzlaf- Perry
Toews- Richards- Horton
Duchene

Keith- Seabrook

I like that team. Good picks. Of course who knows what'll happen. How many of us would have put Rico Fata on the 2002 Team? I would have.........in 1998.

But you're pretty safe with a lot of those guys. I think Jordan Staal was a whisker away from making this team and personally if he keeps doing what he was doing he'll be hard to ignore. But you are probably spot on with Tavares and Hall. Both should be NHL stars by then. Stamkos is close as it is, he'll be on that team.

Horton looks a little out of place there. I think Carter might be a better fit. Or who knows, maybe another winger steps up by then? Duchene is a nice fit as well.

I am going to throw 3-4 names out there and they are ALL just gambles.

Kadri - Maybe I'm on a high after watching him in the WJC but the sky is the limit
Ellis - I just can't see his game NOT translating into NHL stardom, he's too smart
Letang - A wild card, and probably won't make it, but he might have multiple Cup rings by then and to be honest he's come a long ways in Pittsburgh the last couple years
Mason - I love the goalies and Mason would be hard pressed to knock any of them down but he'll be a stellar goalie when it all comes together, like Price
