I've been saying for a bit more than a year that Subban will be our future Markov in his prime, and that dream is slowly materializing. Granted he won't have quite the same uber-smart hockey sense that Markov relies on but overall he will compensate for it with his grit/leadership while potentially maintaining the same offensive output(yes, I mean a ppg) The only prospect I can compare subby to is Carey Price.

Oh and I know Weber was the "subban" of last year, but different breed

I'll laugh if they decide to call him up and he misses this. Happened to O'Byrne iirc.

Groulx is a heck of an AHLer though. Two guys that made it that I wanted us to sign as undrafted free agents, Charles Linglet and Maxim Noreau.
I always liked noreau, maybe he can still maake it to the nhl. i think he's leading the ahl for goals as a defenceman, and has been pretty much top 10 in scoring for defenceman since his junior days. glad to see he's doing well.

I think Subban is a defenseur not a 4th line forward.

You should had put him as well in your thread title...

Desjardins is giving Gainey a real option to try to trade Halak if needs be.

Really went out on a limb there, eh Nostradamus? I also went out on a limb and predicted Crosby would be an impact player in the NHL.

Markov-Hamrlik
Spacek-O'Byrne
Gill-Subban

1st PP
Markov-Spacek/Subban
2nd PP
Hamrlik-Subban/Spacek

1st PK
Gill-Hamrlik
2ndPK
O'Byrne-Markov
MAB needs to find his niche as a LW at 5-on-5, PP specialist at the right point. If he does, Spacek becomes expendable and Gorges a keeper, which saves a lot of money about $2.5M I would think.

I agree we need to save some money, and Spacek could be the one moved. MAB will likely cost some coin next offseason though, especially if he keeps on being fed by markov on an awesome first unit PP. There is the possiblity, if Gainey is willing to be patient or PK absolutely tears up the A, of just giving that job to PK or have him "win it" from Hammer...

another pleasant issue next year !

Markov
Hamrlik
Spacek
Gill
Georges
O'Byrne
Mara
Bergeron
+ Subban

I think we really should consider to trade Weber and Carle as they still have some value. I don't see any futur for both, Weber will probably never be the next Streit, and Carle could still be a good 6th d-man, just trade them.

The guy's I bolded are gone this year or are on their last year next year.So IMO it won't be a problem finding room for our younger player's.The only guy on that list that is still gonna be here in 2011-2012 will be Markov.

I know Noreau's younger brother, pretty well actually. We should sign Maxim

There is a way of saving ourselves from this self-created problem, discussed in another thread:

Even after next year, Spacek will only have 1 year left on his contract. But for 2011-2012, we should have:

Markov
Spacek
Gorges
O'Byrne
Subban
Weber
Carle

We're gonna need some vets, especially considering the year after 2012-2013, Spacek comes off the books too.

Really? You think that Subban, a second round pick who has yet to play a game in the NHL, is as sure a bet of being as good as Markov as Sidney Crosby is to make an impact at the NHL level???

Honestly, I'm not saying it's not possible, but the odds of that happening are not as great as you make it sound.

Well so far he has been the best player everywhere hes been and was Canada's top D and arguably the best D in all WJC last year. Hes the Dogs best D, starts in the AHL all stars in his first season and given more ice-time, he would be the AHL's best D. To me PK is legit.

Thats excellent news! Im a bit surprised I knew this guy was good but I didnt know he was THAT good...

Lets not jinx him, I hope this is a confidence boost for PK cuz next year Im sure he will be called up and I doubt him going back to the AHL. Thats why they wanted to keep him for one full season in the AHL for him to develop and then bring him up when he's ready and after he got some experience.

I cant wait to have him on the lineup next to Markov people will finally be like ''MAB WHO??!?''

If Hammer has 1 or 2 years left to give, I wouldn't mind seeing him stay for a paycut, I think it'd be likely, which would give us enough wiggle room until Weber and Subban gain more experience. Hammer's veteran presence alone will be worth it.

I'm not trying to downplay PK's potential. I think he's a great player that could become a top pairing D-man for us, but "Habs" response to "TNBT" claim that PK will be our next Markov (a top 5 D in the league) is pretty ridiculous.

Not saying it's impossible, but to say that it's a sure thing that should go without saying is absurd.
