Canadian Olympic team media coverage and gender bias?

is it just me or did it seem like the announcement of the mens Olympic team roster receive much more media coverage than the announcement of the womens Olympic team roster?

Women's hockey sucks, and no one watches it anyway, so it's not bias.

The NHL gets proportionately more coverage than the WNHL, so the same ratio is used for the Olympics...keep things equal, it's only fair.

This is the start of an awful and short-lived thread...

yes the mens team got more coverage because they are the more popular team with the public.

The womens team has trouble getting recognition because MOST major sports journalists wont take womens sports seriously compared to mens, and its easy to see why when the average mens player is making multi-million dollar salaries a season, where as the women dont even have a league that pays salaries yet.

It sucks, but its just the nature of the sport. Mens hockey will always be more popular than womens hockey, thus they will get more coverage.

People actually care about men's hockey. Why would they make a big deal with the women's team announcement and put on a show that no one watches?

Seeing as how a game hasn't even been played, and we already have, at minimum, a silver medal.

The level of interest isn't anywhere near the same. Not even close...like Pluto to the Sun.

Those two players from the Macdonald's commercial...Rebecca Lobo, and Serena Williams?

Literally never even heard of it.

The gender bias is there because there is infinitely less interest in women's hockey than men's.

actually yes, the whole Canadian roster, quite a few of the cuts, most of the U.S. team, a few from Finland & Sweden & a couple from elsewhere.

But I am aware it is the less popular of the two genders.
I am still more excited for this tourney than the mens.

Count me in as someone who didn't know there was a WNHL.

Honestly, with the level of competition, I don't even know why women's hockey is in the Olympics. There are, at most, like 3 teams that have any chance of winning.

Women's hockey just isn't as competative as men's. Its always USA vs Canada and will be for a few years longer. Men's hockey, for starters more people watch the games and know the players. Furthermore, there are more men playing hockey then women so there are more teams in the running for gold so it is that much more interesting.

No, it's just you, Bob Mac and all those guys did the same thing for the women's team too.

Oh, Canada has a women's team. That's good to know. Thanks.
