to

D Tomas Kaberle

to

LW Alex Ovechkin

It is Eklund may I remind you.....

On the one hand, they are still in the playoff hunt, but on the other hand I don't see Burke continuing the trend that this organization has set of being a 7,8,9,10th place "Bubble Team" that would really have to catch lightning in a bottle to be any bit of a factor for the Cup.
I wonder if Eklund realizes that the Leafs don't have a 1st round draft pick this year

Does it really matter where we finish? Whether it be 9th or 15th? Boston cares, for the Toronto franchise going forward it means little.

So I guess this means that Kaberle definitely wont be traded to the caps.

Throwing darts.

Kaberle would fit the Caps' system like a glove.

EK is just stating the obvious here.

Wow do the Flyers make out like bandits in this deal. Hagman, Alzner and White all for a second...are teams selling players to the Flyers at a discount or something. Was it coupon day?

I genuinely do not believe McPhee has any interest in paying Toronto's asking price for Kaberle, especially since he's not a rental. Burke really can't make this trade unless he gets back Carlson or Alzner or a significant roster player, and it just makes no sense for Washington to make that sort of trade.

They need a defensive oriented player. While as others have stated, he would fit quite well .... Green is plenty of offense alone on the back end. Carlson, Alzner + Green are the future of Washington's defensive core. I just don't see how Kaberle would be worth it, especially if it's not long term.

Yup, this is what Burke would need as part of a deal, and if he can't get it I don't see anything happen. Kaberle would be lethal in Washington, but he's a huge part of this team right now, and Toronto can't afford to lose him unless a significant piece comes back for the future.

I love the fact that he tries to justify it.

Btw, the Flyers don't have a 1st.

Wait a minute.. Toronto trades Hagman, White and Kaberle for a first and a very bad 2nd? Um.. I'll have to say no to that one..

Flyers come out CLEAR winners (all they give up is a first), Caps make an alright deal (since they are cup contenders, would make them better) and Leafs get robbed. Who on the team would move the puck on the backend if White and Kaberle are gone?

BTW, I had this rumor made up over the summer. Eklund really digs deep for ideas.

Kaberle does not clear the crease, is not a stay at home guy who arrives with malice and a bad attitude.

In short, not what we need and certainly not at the expense of Alzner and a 1st. Also consider he is under contract next year as well which "MAY" hinder signing other players we do want to keep.

Makes no sense.

1. Believe it or not the Caps would not have room for Kaberle on the first PP unit which plays most of the minutes. Ovechkin Backstrom, Semin Laich or Knuble and Green. Ek's first mistake is saying the Caps need a veteran to run their PP. That is what Green is for.

2. Alzner is already playing 20 minutes a night. McPhee is not going to trade him.

3. The Caps need salary cap space to fit Semin and Backstrom and Fleischmann. Someone signed beyond this season makes that difficult.

4. On the other hand. Its true that the Caps need a defense first defenseman. Its also true that McPhee is a leading believer in the puck moving defense first dman.

5. Neidermeyer makes more sense as he is a pending ufa. If its Kaberle, the deal would not be a typical deadline deal of veteran for picks and prospects. McPhee is among the most difficult managers in the league to predict because he works differently. If there is anything to Kaberle to the Caps, think Tom Poti.

The Caps have more quality prospects than they could ever use at the NHL level. Could Tom Poti, a prospect not Alzner or Carlson and a first round pick get the deal done? Probably not, but it would probably be something like that.

Wow! Eklund really is a dumb, he thinks Bobby Ryan is from Philadelphia. For someone who is supposed to be so indepth with hockey you think he would know that he is from New Jersey. There Eklund, theres your next rumor. Bobby Ryan to the Devils for Martin Brodeur!!!!!
